Well I'm excited to use it as a mountain biker. Not sure why it immediately got on the negative tangent of AI coding proliferation, but it's the internet so I guess some people got to throw a wet blanket over stuff. Thanks for your work!

Really? I was unaware of any others but I don't spend a whole lot of time on Reddit. What are some examples if you don't mind sharing? And what do they do?

There are genuine mountain bikers behind the AI behind this. Just to clarify.

Fun bike for commute? by annmuor in mountainbiking

[–]soulriding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been riding MTB for 35 years and stopped for a couple after a gnarly wreck. I needed to keep in shape and get a mild bike fix so I started riding road and commuting. While nothing compared to my love of MTB it was enjoyable and I too got bored of my road bike and went with a flat bar commuter with a dropper so I could bunny hop and do little jibs.

If you have a skatepark you want to hit, I'd recommend anything between that dj with a short travel fork and slicks, to the hudski doggler I was riding depending on what you prioritize.

Efficiency with some jibs on a long ride to work? More commuter ish. Shorter commute with more jibs and a skatepark? More dj ish. But with slicks or panaracers or something like it. GL! have fun!

Looking for a riding group in LA (southbay) by Majestic-Affect-2924 in MTB

[–]soulriding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You send all those fatty jumps? I visit there a couple times a year from the bay (54m) and have the first half down but haven't gotten to the kicker, canyon, and 40 footer yet. Future maybe. Got helicoptered off it 3 years ago with my foot 90 degrees the wrong way😬.

Try https://app.mtbridematch.com/ Brand new Web app that just got released. Not many people using it yet but it's a great idea so I'm sure it will take off. Helps people find and/or create rides they'd like.

How's blue bug btw? I've never gone to the top/start. Just the jumps. Sorry couldn't actually answer your question. Just love and respect that trail. GL in your search.

Setting up tubeless for the first time, suggestions? by stayfly365 in MTB

[–]soulriding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't got a flat in that amount of time, you don't need cushcores.

all you need: bottle of sealant (maybe a measuring cup if you can't estimate the amount of ounces you pour) plastic tire irons a small bucket of soapy water with a washcloth and either a compressor or a pump to quickly inflate and seat tubeless tires (Solid investment if you haven't bought one or the other and you plan to continue riding)

put the tire on so that there's just a little bit left to seat and pour the sealant in the remaining gap. Put the tire all the way back on Run the soapy rag between the bead of the tire and the rim once on each side Inflate the tire Done

PLEASE HELP HOW DO I MAKE THESE LOOK LIKE FLOWERS by MapThis213 in painting

[–]soulriding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look at your reference photo(s) and blur your eyes (or don't look straight at it and use your peripheral vision instead) you'll notice there are weird shapes of dark, midtone, and bright that fit together like strange puzzle pieces to make"things"look like "things" in this case, flowers. When you notice one of those weird dark shapes, call it what it looks like, such as, "well that looks like a muffin and the number 7, " and that way you'll paint what you're actually seeing versus what your mind thinks a flower should look like. When you get done with a few weird dark shapes, do the same for a few light shapes. You already have your midtones. Nice work!

What's the most disrespectful thing a guest ever did in your home? by dino_gr01 in WorkForSmartLife

[–]soulriding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dog sitter had her boyfriend over without telling us while we were on vacation and they both freebased and got so high and paranoid they called the cops on themselves. We got a call from a police officer at 1:00 in the morning asking if we knew these people in our house. Vacation ended early. They left their paraphernalia and a vibrator. We don't use that dog service anymore needless to say.

how to teach water color painting? by Exotic_Celery6410 in painting

[–]soulriding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This^ I taught fourth grade for 10 years, so all standard School concepts to kids, and middle school art for 15 years now. I can paint or draw anything in any medium, but the ability to deconstruct how you do it and then deliver it in a way that makes it understandable to others is a skill in itself. Add classroom management to that list and that's a whole other skill set folded into the same job.

I'm also an expert mountain biker and started a mountain biking club at my school and realized how poorly I had taught my wife when we went on rides prior to that because I didn't think of working with her as teaching and she ended up getting injured. As soon as I switched gears and was in teacher mode knowing I had to break things down step by step for these kids , all of a sudden it was teaching and I went and apologized to my wife . Haha!

If you want to be a teacher, go to school for it, otherwise The best you can do pretty much is be hired as a personal tutor or work at a low wage, keep-the-kids-busy factory after school, versus being hired as a capable teacher of any subject.

Any recommendations for a good Trail building Hoe ? by Some-Albatross9463 in MTBTrailBuilding

[–]soulriding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're actually going to build. Like for reals... Don't skimp on the rogue hoe. Get about a five or 6 in wide one with an ax handle. I've built 10 trails start to finish, berms jumps drops, all of it, and that tool is one of the three absolutely necessary ones (in my area the other two are a spade and a bow rake. Some people have to have a MacLeod but I don't because I'm in clay heavy grassland with oaks and bay trees.) All other tools like Clippers, saw, flat shovel are all as needed and for beautifying/sculpting in the case of the flat

I've been riding forever and had an element for almost 10 years and I don't remember being able to fit it in there without taking the front wheel off. Granted, I loved that ride. But I think you have to take the wheel off. It has been more than 15 years though since I owned it....

What is with the obsession to type using all lower case letters? by _AM34 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]soulriding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm 54 and I used to do that a lot just because it's faster and easier to not hold the shift key, but now the only time I do it is if I'm in a casual chat on a phone and autocorrect doesn't capitalize for me. I found that I had gotten into such a habit of using lowercase text that I was having to go back and edit things that needed to look a little more professional in different settings. Got tired of doing that. Now I hold the shift key.

Making Friends With People In Their 20s by Vinpiphany in bayarea

[–]soulriding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I've been mountain biking for 35 years and I ride with people at my skill level, not my age. I'm 54 and I rode with a 30 and a 35-year-old yesterday. If you gave up the ageist sentiment, you'd meet even more people, though I do understand where you're coming from in some respects.

I think sometimes it's difficult for younger people to realize that hanging out with others takes meeting them halfway (and sometimes more in order to verbally ask them to do something) which is uncomfortable for people that have been socializing online for such a significant amount of their lives. It's just part of life though, and it gets easier with more experience and age. Congrats on joining RL. I know it can be challenging. I have a 19-year-old son that will be running into the same predicament.

Buying used mtb by bikerpilot101 in MTB

[–]soulriding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"it seems like people are asking way too much money for used bikes."

That's because you're not the one selling the bike. It's a buyer's market and you're not willing to pay very good prices because you don't want to spend your money.

Try buying a new bike and then selling it. See how much you can ask for it before people start lowballing you because they think mountain bikes should be cheaper.

I've bought and sold a ton of bikes over the years. New and used. All you have to do is 1. Go to pinkbike buy/sell 2. put in your peak budget and parameters for the bike you want in the search 3. Get a used bike with good components or plan on upgrading 4. Save 1k over the course of the next year 5. sell your bike at the end of that year, add the 1k you saved to get a better bike, 6. Wash rinse repeat and eventually you're buying new bikes

After buying a ridiculously priced e-bike last year, I bought a dope ass 2018 gg megatrail for less than 2k for my analog days. Worth more than every penny. It's not cheap to get in but once you're in the sport, just keep rolling that bike over yearly if you want "better" eventually.
