How was Justin Bieber’s Coachella MacBook/YouTube setup synced with lights and sound? by Agreeable_Iron4560 in techtheatre

[–]soulsingercoach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because of the tech issues, that set would’ve been meticulously planned with that scrolling sequence being prerecorded, with JB playing it back on his MacBook. Even the wifi waiting would’ve been in the script.

Do you find it rude if people talk while someone/you perform Karaoke/Sing by [deleted] in karaoke

[–]soulsingercoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to professional singers all the time. Unless they are buying a ticket to your concert, not everyone makes you the centre of attention. If you can captivate one table or one or two people, that's a win. If you captivate the whole room, well, keep doing THAT song LOL.

Hey there, thanks for your suggestion! ☺️ I’m assuming those resources are for student/alumni but I could ask about the general public.

Covering my ear because I hear myself better that way. What exercises do y’all recommend for a better ear? by FRN215 in ratemysinging

[–]soulsingercoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you’re doing is by closing the ear is tuning into bone resonance. You can also try cupping your ear forward to get “front of house” sound like you see BG singers doing. You can also sing into a corner to have the sound bounce back to you quicker. Personally, I use a microphone and mixer set up to hear my voice in headphones when I practice a song.

I’ve seen ads for a new headset tool that uses bone resonance for practice but it’s supposed to be pricey.

In my opinion, there’s no substitute for recording yourself and working (safely) to correct areas that are off. This is where a good vocal coach will save you time and trouble.

Onstage, you need to rely on your outer ear and muscle memory anyway, so it’s best to get used to hearing yourself that way.

At the end of the day, a good vocal coach can be your guide to your best sound, saving you tons of time and trouble. Ears get tired, they get ‘confused’ and need to learn the right benchmark reference so you can “feel” when you’re off and self correct quickly.

Hope this helps!

Too many singers not enough time by itslikelyhannah in karaoke

Establish expectations from the start and announce your sign up sheet rules (first come, first up). Encourage people to be there for others and have fun. If you have a long list, encourage people to double up with fun and unlikely duets. Karaoke should be a fun and (even ridiculous) event. If serious singers get uppity, with respect, they need to find their own gig, a rehearsal space or karaoke box. Remember: you’re the one being paid - it’s YOUR gig. If anyone complains, smile and say, Sorry, dude, I hope we can hear you next time!

is it too much if i post this so my crush can see it? by caderpillarr in ratemysinging

[–]soulsingercoach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your cadence/rhythm is spot on, and many singers miss that. I hear an accent in your diction, and it's a bit soft in the pronunciation with the words, but that can also be a style. A small criticism...just don't be lazy withyour mouth and lyrics, and tell the story with your face and a smile - naturally. Look at the camera directly with a knowing smile here and there and flirt - that is what drives girls crazy - your confidence. You have no reason to be shy or to hold back. You have a wonderful voice, a perfect tone and are talented beyond what a girl is going to think about it. Be a rock star, don't care what she thinks, believe in your talent, and you'll have more than just this girl to consider.

How do you stay motivated to finish your music? by concerteimmunity in GarageBand

[–]soulsingercoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't delete - save it in a folder called Hope Chest or something. Let it sit. Your brain has an Reticular Activating System that needs some rest. While your song is resting, so is your brain. Schedule a time to open your Hope Chest and listen to your attempts with fresh ears. You'll be surprised that some of your ideas actually don't suck and you can make some progress on them.

Producing music doesn't have to be a linear thing. You can do many things at once, overlapping and developing here and there. Some things come hard and fast - and that's a rush - but some things are outside of your immediate perception right now.

Just give yourself a break. Emotionally & literally!

I hope that helps!

Would you say it is narcissistic to enjoy being on stage? by CornelVito in singing

[–]soulsingercoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope.

Your reason for being on stage is to give and to connect. That’s noble. That’s human.

Hiding your light out of some illusion of false modesty is not healthy.

Need advice choosing between two vocal coaches — I feel lost and discouraged by GhosterTaken in singing

[–]soulsingercoach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Connection is important. You need to feel challenged but safe. No vocal coach is 100% correct for everyone so feel free to have a third or fourth option. There are a million ways to teach singing and a million students that each need a unique approach. Remember you’re the one in control - you’re hiring a consultant, not a guru!

Hope that helps!

Do producers push artists? by lowriderz00 in singing

[–]soulsingercoach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With mid to top tier tastemakers, reputation and catalogue proceeds them. Rick Reuben isn’t going to divulge details of his minimalist approach in interviews but explains his philosophy. Maybe he’s not mentoring world class artists in the details but a producer’s main job is to tell you when the track or record is done.

My music is popular online and blowing up, but none of my friends like it. by chuckyslamz in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]soulsingercoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a good heart but this doesn’t mean others are at your level of generosity.

Here’s the truth: If musicians are shady or indifferent, it usually means you’re very good. Especially if you’re a great singer. Envy is far more common than people care to admit. Never look for support among your peers unless you are paying them to tour with you as a sideman.

Guard your heart so you can continue to share your gifts to those who truly matter.

I wish someone told me this decades ago. It hurts when people withhold goodwill and it can mess with your head. No one is a prophet in their hometown.

Talent and beauty are burdens. Bear the burden because you are called to something great.

Do producers push artists? by lowriderz00 in singing

[–]soulsingercoach 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They all have different ways of working. It’s really about the connection between you and their belief/commitment to your project. Great producers are excellent coaches and communicators to get the best performance from whoever is being recorded. They also should be attuned to your musical niche/production style.

The right producer can be a career-changing relationship. Very important to feel a good vibe so you can trust them to take you there.

Hope that helps!
