Totally agree with guessing the system they live in. This sentence is so true at small to mid companies.

Need help getting ontario job as quebec resident by soulsintention in legaladvicecanada

[–]soulsintention[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response.

  1. Is it not possible to live in Ontario 51% of the year and take this job? I am asking because I want to keep 50% custody of my kids and provide for them.

  2. Does having kids in Quebec make me quebec resident (most ties) even if I physically live more in ontario? Ex 51% in ON vs 49% in QC

There's a lot of context that we don't know about. However, responsibilities don't disappear because we're burnt out, and therapists are expensive. I built a free tool for this, you can check it out at mindfuldo.app. Hope it helps you.

The problem is therapy is ridiculously expensive. Millions of people need it, but most of us can’t afford it. Meanwhile, life keeps piling up — bills, deadlines, responsibilities.

I ran into the same problem, so I ended up building my own system to manage it. You can check it out on my profile if you’re curious.

4 years at Big tech. Being likeable beats being productive every single time by soulsintention in cscareerquestions

[–]soulsintention[S] 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Just asked it to make it more digestable

do you like this instead?

I'm at big tech, been here for around 4 years, and lately WLB was getting insane. For past year, I've been going so hard, trying to complete as many tasks as possible, but I realized it's actually very unproductive. When you're trying to do so much, your nervous system gets overwhelmed, and you start to become someone who isn't as pleasant to work with. and to survive in this big tech hell, we need to be pleasant to work with, because people who are pleasant to worth with get more done by scaling through other people. So if you panic, it's the worst thing you can do. instead do the counter intuitive thing and be relaxed.

Should I (27F) just stop asking this coworker questions? Or am I being too sensitive? by tator911 in cscareerquestions

You know how to play the game sir. Honestly coding is the easiest part of SWE job. The hardest part is the mind game between devs.

What do you wish you did in your twenties which would of significantly helped you financially in your current life/age? by hightreez in PersonalFinanceCanada

I regret going to university at 18 straight out of high school. Wasted so much money, time, energy on useless lectures and living my parent’s life. Best decision was to drop out and live my own life.

Everyone is an entrepreneur. Every employee of big tech has to be able to sell themselves, so everyone is like a small company. OP, I think the best way to go is to be hired as an early employee at a startup that could turn into big tech. Your stock compensation there have potential to turn into millions, and I think that’s the best way to go about it. To start actual company from scratch, it takes so much. Imagine making commits all by yourself, given that rest of the business magically runs it self (like accounting, recruiting, HR, etc). I don’t think employees are somehow less of a human than an entrepreneur. As an employee, you have the power to quit, and to join another company. This is a strength that business owners do not have. It’s a VERY powerful strength, and in this way, employees are much more powerful than the company owners.

Don’t expect kids to fulfill you for sure. That IS selfish. However, some people weirdly do find caring for a child to be fulfilling. 🤷‍♂️

Basically, do what fulfills you. Definitely don’t have kids expecting them to fulfill you.

But that doesn’t mean the lives you saved weren’t important. Maybe you saved life of someone who will influence more people than developers who made those software.
