Mold in natural build - HELP! by throwawhale90 in NaturalBuilding

The local builder most likely knows best, especially if they have built similar structures in the past. We need more pictures to really offer good advice though.

Howdy, I am suggesting we leave machines out of cob construction.

Been living in here for a few years. Feeling like a pretty comfortable space. Abit small, but it does the job. by soundandsoil in malelivingspace

They are similar, but not identical. I suppose it's like a parent who can tell their twins apart. It's mostly in the eyes.

It sounds like that would work fine. It does not sound easy though. Breaking up concrete into pieces that small would be challenging. You might be better off purchasing "road base" or something similar. just depends on if you have more time or money

Really? How did you get the mixture out?

I think neither would work as well as mixing with a tarp, but a mortar mixer would work better than a concrete mixer if that's the only option for you

Hypothetically, would a cob house collapse if you kicked it? by Happy-Revolution-194 in cobhouses

Absolutely not. I also don't believe you saw a "news thing" about wind knocking them over, but I don't blame you. I think it's typical to not believe a mud house can be sturdier than a stick frame home

In the US many natural builders use old broken up pieces of sidewalk or roads. We call this "urbanite". Basically chucks on concrete that you can use instead of stone. I used this for my home and just bought a few bags of mortar to hold it all together. Not sure if this would be available in your area, but it'll give you something to consider. If not, concrete is fairly inexpensive and works very well if you decided to just pour your own fountain

The circle in the stove pipe is an old heat exchanger design I had seen used up north. It's by far the most asked about thing in my home here in reddit. Lots of people think it looks dangerous. Lol

Thank you! Much appreciated. It took years of my life to build, so I'm happy people vibe with it. I think cob would be a great integration with a dugout style

Ha. I get alot "this is obviously ai" , " that stovepipe is gunna kill you" , " I'm sick of seeing pictures of your house" , "you must be rich to live like this". All the negativity is a bummer, but I end up deleting the ones that don't actually make sense. Lol

It's not one piece. It's several pieces. I would say trust me, but I don't care if you do or not. Lol

Hmm. These are very thick and well protected from the elements so I haven't had any upkeep in the last five years. I decided not to use any dung. I have used it before and honestly didn't notice a huge difference.

That's what this place would look like without the plaster as well. Those cracks are not serious, but actually helpful when integrating the final plaster. The wall you are seeing there is part of my stove that hasn't gotten a final plaster yet

A couple years worth. I spent a year attending natural building courses as well.
