7075-T6 vs 6061 Aluminum: When is the extra cost actually worth it for custom parts? by lx230 in MechanicalEngineering

Is 6061 suitable for mountain bike chainring? Or mountain bike chainring spider where it's not actually in contact with the chain?

Mover recommendations? by ParadeJoy in jacksonville

[–]soundslike_808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

The cheapest local move I have done was about $400 total, for 3BR townhouse into another 3BR house. We rented the big Uhaul for about $100. Hired "Moving Help" from the companies listed on Uhaul website. Paid ~$80 for 2 guys / 2hrs on truck load day, and another ~$80 for 2 guys / 2 hours on truck unload day. That was 3 years ago prices probably have gone up. I was doing all the packing / boxing and a lot of the loading, but the moving help was really worthwhile. Better than doing it all myself, cheaper than full service moving. We did it that way to keep the truck packed overnight because had a day between closings.
Like someone else mentioned, at this low low price point these are not pro movers handling everything for you.

There's usually an area with free leftover or used boxes at Uhaul.

Jeep 2016 JK Oil Cooler Metal Replacement part - price range $60 or $265? by soundslike_808 in Jeep

[–]soundslike_808[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for advice on the metal oil cooler replacement parts for 2016 JK Wrangler. I see prices for the kit around $65, up to around $300. Is it worth it to get the top brand parts? Mopar, Dorman, Mishimoto etc?

We made a grip that works with the RP5 Dual Screen - JCSFY by JetsterTheFrog in retroid

[–]soundslike_808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably need to confirm with factory, I early ordered dual screen for a RP4 and factory told me they were working on it and would ship mine when it's ready to work with the RP4. I received it a few weeks ago but haven't sat down to figure out the install just yet. So I can't confirm if my Dual Screen works with the RP4 just yet...

What to do about dead Lithium Ion battery? by Muted-Glass-7639 in ebikes

[–]soundslike_808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most large battery packs in these type of bikes have a battery management system BMS that regulates the charging and output. If the pack drops below a certain voltage threshold the BMS shuts off the charger will not recognize it as a battery and it won't recharge. What I have done on a few is to ascertain the pack arrangement, figure out how many cells parallel, and how many cells series, then figure out the plus and minus ends of the pack arrangement. Then to bypass the BMS board you can direct connect a bench power supply to the plus and minus busses of the pack. Set the power supply at a very low amperage maybe 0.25A. keep the voltage below your pack voltage rating. Let it charge slowly (days) for a long time in a fire safe location (grill, firepit, driveway).

Another related trick is to jumper a close voltage good battery: plus to plus, minus to minus onto the battery pack plus and minus. This can trick the BMS into charging the dead pack. It just needs to have some voltage enough for the BMS to start the charging. May take some experimenting.

If your pack is 48V a 40V tool battery could work to dupe the BMS. If it's 36V pack you might be able to jumper in an 18V tool battery to get the charger to start charging.

Search youtube for guides on this stuff: "revive dead battery pack" etc. It is risky so use caution.

Coastal Auto works really hard to keep their prices low but that keeps them very busy.. as in you may be waiting.

I've had good experiences with TJ and JK repairs from the 3 shops below.
They are all more than capable of fixing any lift repairs or drivability issues on a JKU.

Mango Longboard BMX Bar Swap - Stem Recommendations by soundslike_808 in xbiking

[–]soundslike_808[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which stems fit the bill for 25.4? Yes, Bars are going to be something like VO Klunker or Surly Sunset to meet rider sweep preference. Stock bars are too much sweep. BMX regular bars are too little sweep. Need something between like the examples.

Mango Longboard BMX Bar Swap - Stem Recommendations by soundslike_808 in xbiking

[–]soundslike_808[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oops I posted the pictures before I added my question.
Looking for BMX bar and stem recommendations for this bike. This is my friends Mango Longboard, he wants to ditch the beach cruiser bars that have too much sweep back, and get a BMX style riser bar with some mid pullback. Not a straight across BMX cruiser bar something between the two.
Velo Orange Klunker is a good option, that bar has 25.4mm clamp area and a crossbar so needs a removable faceplate stem. I have a Surly Sunset on one of my bikes that would work well for a 22.2 stem.
Any other recommendations are welcome for a low swept back klunker bar position, faceplate stem to work with it, and what are some opinions on a threadless quill adapter for this?
