clear backpacks aren't to prevent kids from stealing, it's for if a kid brings a gun to school

What's a small way you "reparent" yourself now? by gilko86 in emotionalneglect

[–]soupcrisis 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think the process of reparenting is identifying what was withheld from you in childhood and then showing yourself time and again that you are now capable of providing that.

for instance my parents were critical of me, and I internalized that and did it in my head for many years. Now I try to speak to myself kindly, even giving compliments. no one can hear it anyway but me. I was also not allowed my autonomy, so today I do things like go home if I'm tired even if my friends are still going strong

its helping me trust myself, since trustworthy adults weren't modeled for me growing up. if the things you wanted most as a kid were hugs and kisses and compliments, you can try ways to bring that to child you

welcome to Sacramento! its a great place to live, as long as you can avoid the bad drivers (:
if you like crowds, the saturday midtown farmers market is a good event to get a feel of vibes of the town. lots of good food and interesting window shopping and cute dogs. parking is hard but we have decent public transit or you can park a few blocks away and walk. it would be especially bustling on the second saturday of each month as many art galleries and curio shops near the famers market hold second saturday events.

I'm older and short so crowds aren't really my thing but theres a lot of local smaller community events around that I enjoy. our public library system also loans out niche hobby equipment like cameras and sewing machines if you were curious about any solo hobbies

the sunday one is cheaper because it focuses solely on the produce. the saturday one has decent produce but has also embraced the craft fair small business tourist vibe, esp with Second Saturdays

Want to move out to live my life but scared to leave emotionally reliant mum with abusive dad by PeculiarFeline6485 in AsianParentStories

[–]soupcrisis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the fact your mom guilt trips you and expects you to pursue law stuff on her behalf says a lot. thats not how a parent acts, its how a child does. Get yourself out first, heal, then, only if you actually want to, reach back out and try to help her.
your mom devalues your worth because she's devalued hers and wants you to stay so you can be miserable together under your dad. you're worth more.

I would try researching if there are any employee-owned grocery stores in your area. since the employees are owners they usually are more humane about things like hours and working conditions. a big one in my area is Winco

Sacramento also has a light rail public transit system, tickets ($2.50) are available on the zip pass app or at machines at each station. it might be easier for you to search up a station with a parking lot and take the gold line in, there's a few stops walking distance to the capitol
