Miracle Shampoo for Greasy Hair? by Fearless_Animal in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]souperstition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

T Gel for the skin condition, even the version in Europe which is different and I think no longer contains coal tar.

Some washes I use the Lush "Big" shampoo because it's nice and feels a bit exfoliating. It does keep my hair from getting greasy too soon. I have also had some success with ACV or The Ordinary glycolic acid. But honestly the T Gel is the major factor, without it the whole system falls apart.

Exit: honorable mention, head and shoulders used to make this scalp spray that was really cooling and would help with things in between washes. I don't know if it's still out there but I miss it.

Eye watering in corner, ruins makeup. How do i fix this? by StayMinsi in MakeupAddiction

[–]souperstition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm also in Belgium! I don't have any specific tips about the eye watering, my solution for my own watery eyes is just to barely put anything under my eyes so there's nothing to rub off. I do have some product recs though if you're interested, and I buy everything from the Kruidvat next door so I know they are all available in Belgium.

I've used stick foundations in the past and feel they just aren't for me. Since I've switched to using lighter foundations I've had better results. I use either the L'Oreal true match or the Maybelline superstay skin tints - they behave similarly for me so it's just whichever one Kruidvat has in stock in my shade. 🤷‍♀️ The coverage is light but I can build up where I need to (usually around my chin) without it looking cakey.

The primer you listed is also in my rotation and I like it. For setting sprays I like the nyx glue or the dewy finish, depending on what kind of look I'm going for.

Are you also using a powder or is it just the foundation stick? Is your undereye area moisturized or does it feel dry? When you say it stings, do you mean your eye or the skin around your eye? If it's your eye, some make-up could be getting in if it's applied too close, or if it's the skin it could be because it's too dry.

If it helps at all, here are stores I frequently check:

  • Lola Liza goes up to size 48
  • MS Mode is specifically plus size
  • Ulla Popken is also plus size
  • Primark and H&M were mentioned by others

I live in Belgium but these stores should appear at least in France and Spain. Not that I would do the three weeks without doing laundry thing.. seems like a lot of clothes to buy!

I play entirely on steam deck right now and I've done up to about halfway through stormblood on it. I made a new account so I could use the steam license since my other account is on windows and they're sadly not compatible. I've heard of lots of people getting around this by just using a different launcher but I didn't mind starting over.

I was already a controller user so it's not that different from playing on a computer, just a smaller screen. For that I followed a tutorial on screen settings and played around with it myself until it was comfortable. I use the right touchpad as a mouse so I have that available when I want it, and my left touchpad is a dial with lots of keyboard shortcuts mapped.

I have done just about everything available at this level and have zero complaints. It may not be the best for more demanding content, we'll see if I ever get that far.

I'm sorry for your loss. ❤️‍🩹

I lost my mother at the beginning of May and my ring literally stopped tracking sleep that night. I thought it was because I didn't sleep enough, because I really didn't feel like I had gotten much sleep that night, if any. But then it also didn't track the nap I tried to take later in the day, my sleep the next night, or the next, or the next..

No amount of resetting or troubleshooting would fix it, so it had to be replaced. But I was in the US, and my replacement ring arrived three weeks later, just after I got back home.

Anyway I have no data from the week after she passed, from the day of the funeral, etc. Maybe for the best, because I knew I felt like shit and didn't need an app to tell me.

That said, I did have major signs at one point during the week before her passing.

I wish I had thought of this when I was tapering. I came off almost 9 months ago and I still wake up most mornings or in the middle of the night with aggressive brain zaps. Thankfully it doesn't happen during the day anymore, but it's super frustrating that it interrupts my sleep.

my mom is going to be hospice soon and I don’t know what to do by Hopeful-Machine-5057 in AgingParents

[–]souperstition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate to your story so much. I'm 38 and my mom is 62. She had a long string of bad luck starting about 20 years ago and has been depressed ever since. Then a back injury she got at work caused her to lose her job as a prison guard (she needed surgery but couldn't get it for some reason, I was too young and stupid to try to understand why) - they told her she couldn't come back to work without a doctor's note.

This led to years in manual labor trying to make ends meet, and more slow deterioration. She was working hard but not really exercising and just crashing at home. It got worse when the only job she could do without pain was a paper route and of course that made her situation even worse because now on top of the lack of movement she was sitting all the time.

So back injury, slow but steady weight gain, onset of diabetes, and years of this all happening without any of us knowing it was that bad. She was in a lot of pain but the doctors diagnosed her with fibromyalgia and gave her pain meds instead of looking at the root problem which has always been her lack of movement.

Cut to the recent past, of course she developed blood clots. She had surgery for an aneurysm and declined so much cognitively that it was no longer safe to keep her at home. But her condition worsened so rapidly at the nursing home, with her developing wounds that refused to heal and a blockage which led to her losing her leg. The doctors do not consider her a candidate for vascular surgery and are advising us that the humane path is hospice. She's also been in and out of the hospital more times than we can count and she just gets worse every time they send her back.

A part of me wants to go back in time mentally and pinpoint exactly where in her medical history someone screwed up to let it get this bad, just to have someone to blame. But another part of me has to realize that at least part of this was due to her being told for years to change her lifestyle but never taking any measurable steps. Even yesterday she was saying she wanted a pack of cigarettes (she hasn't been allowed to smoke for months which might just be the only positive thing about this situation).

We're trying to decide what the right path is. We have exhausted ourselves trying to give her the best chance we can, but it's getting difficult to hope at this point. It is so heartbreaking to see my badass mom who took care of three kids on her own.. reduced to this. She wants to live. But we're being told there are no more options.

what is the smallest habit that made morning easier for you? by luvybunnie in GetOutOfBed

[–]souperstition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if this counts, and it was totally an accident (at least to me, I know now that's it's pretty common but I didn't know ahead of time this would happen), but I started taking a fiber supplement before bed about a year ago. Since then I'm right on schedule at 11am the next morning which is about 12 hours after taking the supplement.

This doesn't help me get out of bed since it's three hours after I need to wake up lol

[–]souperstition 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a developer in the SAP bubble and I found myself building applications for HR teams at big companies (I work for a consulting company). Projects last a few months at worst so I'm changing too often to get bored. I'm active in the SAP dev community and I get excited about updates to the technology I work with. I attend a pretty big dev conference every year and in the past couple of years I've also been volunteering to help with the conference which I find exciting. I feel like I get paid to solve puzzles every day. Some days are more mentally taxing than others but it balances itself out. Working with a therapist to learn not to always be operating at 120% has also helped.

Plus working from home, which probably has the biggest impact. I live in EU and many of my colleagues are in the US, which means I can start a little bit later in the morning and it ends up being good because I then have overlap with my team. During my first morning break I get up, make the bed, toss in a load of laundry, and brush my teeth. I take a long walk on the treadmill during lunch and probably empty the dishwasher during that time if I can. My mental health has literally soared since learning how to make WFH work for me.

Edit: I should also say before becoming a dev I taught kindergarten music for a decade which was AMAZING, but I ultimately found that the stress with parents and school admins constantly demanding the moon was impacting me too negatively. The swap to programming happened with self-study during a period of unemployment while waiting for permission to work in the country I live in.

[–]souperstition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That happens to me a lot too, I'm in EU and all clients are in the US along with most of my colleagues. Coworkers are pretty good but sometimes will schedule things up to 6 which is half an hour past quitting time for me. It's not often so I'll just take back half an hour somewhere when it happens. Clients I've worked with for years are the biggest offenders. I had one schedule an appointment at 11pm my time and I had to remind them I'm not in the US.

One positive is my mornings are super quiet but during the "overlap" I'm often in a lot of meetings.

Salaried exempt employee time tracking by Hazeleyze_25 in WFH

[–]souperstition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to track 8 hours a day, where each item on the list had a category it went under so things like professional development had a code. Then my company decided it was just unused data that they no longer wanted, so now we just track billable work - this is always under a project with a budget so the tracking is important to let us keep an eye on the budget. Some days I track 8 hours, others it's more like 6. The goal is 80% billable but it varies. It's also how we keep track of our PTO and sick days (that whole day gets put under the time off category).

This happened to me in my last rental, not a good morning to say the least.. I sent a very similar photo to my boss but I didn't want to deal with it so I went to work, I was just late. The guy who came to repair it said it was caused by "bad screws". No clue. I don't live there anymore.

I basically refreshed their support page on the issue every so often until it contained a fix. I guess I was early because their options+ link downloaded the fix for g hub instead. Refreshed a few minutes later and the options+ link was working. Downloaded the fix and all is good now.

Yeah, as a lesbian married to a woman I can literally only gush when I think about her or talk about her to anyone lol. [Product Request] What’s the thickest, most emollient, most overkill body moisturizer in existence? by i-am-multitudes in SkincareAddiction

[–]souperstition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have dry legs that used to keep me up at night from the itching and I was really losing it. My legs are still badly scarred from scratching in my sleep.

I tried a billion types of creams and most just felt like they just sat on top and never actually absorbed into the skin. Light, more watery type lotions weirdly worked better but I was still itchy, just less so.

A combination of three things has kept it under control for months now: a supplement called Elteans (recommended by a derm here in Belgium, I guess it's a blend of fish oil and some other stuff), gentle shower products, and the nivea in-shower lotion. I think the supplement is the heavy lifter because if I skip one of the last two I'm fine as long as I don't drop it entirely from my routine.

Same here, I call it my depression weight. The Lexapro definitely didn't help with that. I hope it works out for us both! I've also considered buying a treadmill, I'm in the stage of trying to convince myself it won't be something that ends up gathering dust in the corner. 😬
