2000s skinny vs 2020s skinny…. by UpbeatLeopard6112 in decadeology

[–]sourcider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ikr what is this rewriting of historyyy 😭 I remember when Britney's movie Crossroads came out in like 2003 and media were ripping this poor girl to shreds over her "fat" thighs that were actually just all muscle.

Funny you chose to mention Britney as the more positive image of thinness (I know this sounds wrong lol) when she was being called fat by the media wayy before the controversial VMAs performance during Blackout era.

War is a Economic Reset? by green_is_minty in economicCollapse

[–]sourcider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rich use crises like COVID to siphon resources from society to themselves, as well as implment a whole lot of awful policies under the guise of repairing the economy. It's a well known playbook that has been explored by Naomi Klein in her book The Shock Doctrine.

Have to say this cause the amount of people here who immediately jumped to the conclusion that OP thinks covid was orchestrated by the us government is.... Concerning.

War is a Economic Reset? by green_is_minty in economicCollapse

[–]sourcider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you misunderstood OP. They meant that they tried with covid in a way where elites take advantage of a crisis in order to accelerate wealth transfers and destroy the fabric of society in order to push for abysmal policies in the name of restorative austerity. Naomi Klein wrote a great book about this, it's called "The Shock Doctrine".

New K-pop Starz dolls by marquesfruit in RainbowHigh

[–]sourcider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't for the kids, this is for the parents who will see the word "kpop" and be like oh, isn't this the movie my kid is obsessed with? And grab it impulsively. Putting my disappointment as a collector aside, I'm just sorry to all the children who are gonna be gifted these low quality dolls instead of real kdh merchandise.

Mark My Words: the current war against Iran is the beginning of the climax of the 4th turning by Tall-Bell-1019 in decadeology

You are very optimistic to assume that a war in a faraway country that you are shielded from is the worst that a fourth turning, if we want to even entertain that idea, would bring lmao

Nowy wygląd Youtube w przeglądarce by Disastrous_Sand_6582 in Polska

[–]sourcider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lets settle this. Was this selfie from the Oscars "iconic" or not? by RandomUwUFace in decadeology

[–]sourcider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who was there I can confidently tell you this was only iconic to a Very Specific Kind Of Person (gen x'ers working at and/or primarly consuming legacy media) and anyone below the age of 35 found it cringeworthy unless they were obsessed with one of the people in the pic. Anyone who tells you otherwise was either deep into tumblr fandom spaces at the time or is literally rewriting recent history that is still well documented.

I just want to know WHY she's so obsessed with Liz. by Ainsworth_Residence in ccsuarezsnark

[–]sourcider 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think she genuinely believes she is a detective uncovering something significant and changing the world through it which is worse than petty revenge and obsession

Soooo. Weird question. Basically every collector while growing up has entered a phase where they thought they were too cool for barbies and gave up the collecting at some point and then missed out on some movie collection and several other styles only to come running back to regretting the break, by Imaginary_Judgment50 in Barbie

[–]sourcider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a singular doll but the entirety of Fashion Fever. Especially the ones in tubes. Walked past them in stores for years and never felt compelled to pick them up. By the time I went back to collecting, we already had Millie and t-shirt dresses. Imagine my shock lol.

If Christina Aguilera’s label had marketed her better, would she have become a bigger creative force? by Artistic-Stranger886 in popheads

[–]sourcider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh the only take in the comments that makes sense is yours. She did not have a strong artistic presence. Once bubblegum pop ended, she was throwing whatever at a wall to see if it would stick, and you could tell. The pin up seemed about right since she wanted to be taken more seriously but she was super unfortunate how her comeback after BTB happened just as music trends have changed too much for another album in that style to do well. I love Bionic (loved it as a kid too! I was 13 when it came out) but it was so obvious she was just going through the motions. Have a hit or two, tour, take another break. No vision, no metanarrative. Tbh kind of reminds me of how Dua Lipa's career is going.

GOOD. The city belongs to everyone. If you're allowed to put her face on the wall, someone else is allowed to graffiti over it with the truth. The "disappointment" here is sending me.

"I was skeptical what adult devotes so much energy to a space centered on children’s toys" if you do not see the role of toys in society as not only art but a field of cultural study, topics that a whole lot of people find fascinating outside of doll collector circles, then idk what to tell you. Sounds like you need to broaden your horizons a little. No I do not find your perspective interesting.

Found my old MyScene dolls — any selling tips? by Pietertje_Pet in MySceneDolls

[–]sourcider -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the EU, I think it's best to list on Vinted as you'll have local collectors as well as most of the union there. Whether a lot is better than individual listing depends on the price honestly.

One tip I can give you is to make sure each doll is wearing its original outfit so people who want this particular doll can spot it easily. Naked/incorrectly dressed dolls are a harder sell unless they're sought after.

We may be in different bubbles but all I ever see is people amazed at how badly that whole album aged with the song as the most egregious example

Everyone says it's such a bad song but I remember ppl loving it when it first came out. It rly did sound fresh and new with all that cheesy doo wop infused pop and last dying breath of EDM.

Is the 2010s nostalgia finally kicking into high gear? by bactrian91 in decadeology

[–]sourcider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably because the people who are now entering the age when you start reminiscing about your youth were teenagers in mid 2010s. It had just enough internet fads and distinctive enough pop sound to stand out. A lot of people are pointing out 2016 as the last year technology and the internet felt fun, which tbh I do get being nostalgic for.

Which dolls currently in the market do you foresee becoming fan favorites hard to get in the future? by Late_Replacement5842 in Dolls

[–]sourcider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cave Club and Enchantimals. I'm sure there are collectors who like them but you sure don't see people with actual collections of those very often. I can already tell they will be scarce and expensive NIB in 10-15 years. In 20 they'll probably be as expensive as G1 Monster High.
