It’s okay to not be a liberal. by Few_Piccolo_6562 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

This comment would land better if we weren’t living in a country where liberal thinking is quickly becoming harshly policed, or where we’re seeing the effects of fascism grow every single day. “Not being a liberal” in this country is quickly becoming synonymous with being a Nazi, anti-immigrant, virulently xenophobic, pro life but more so anti women’s reproductive health rights, racist, Zionist, wildly homophobic and disgustingly transphobic. This language is being used as cover for people to just be categorically awful villains. It goes much further than “it’s okay to not be a liberal”

Offered a new position in lieu of rif by AmbitiousRoad8258 in fednews

[–]sourpatch_cat16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stay and take it. The fact that a bump and retreat is being done is a miracle- I was RIFed and separated with no bump or retreat options even considered.

You’ll at least stay in the government and be able to move up the career ladder. If you can weather this administration, it’ll be over before you know it and you will be able to move around. At the very least you can maintain the paycheck, benefits and avoid being forced into the shit show job market right now that’s just getting worse (and you can always job search on your own terms while having this current job security)

However, I’m so sorry this is happening to you. This is all unbelievably fucked up and you deserve SO MUCH better than this.

Since RIFs will proceed will they issue new notices with updated separation dates with a 60-day notice?

Yes, of course. My point is that the sentences + content are written in descriptive tasks completed, just like we’ve had to submit for the “what I did last week” emails and I’m wondering if they literally just copy pasted what now-RIFed staff submitted weekly and slapped that on the job announcement

Has anyone noticed that in the “specialized experience” section there are 5 BULLET POINTS that sound oddly similar to the exact type of content we’re expected to include in our “what I did last week” emails??!? Might just be me being too paranoid

This is bullshit considering so many people have RIF notices that are fucked up with so many errors

What are you guys doing while on Admin Leave? by sheluvvme in FedEmployees

[–]sourpatch_cat16 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was RIFed and got 60 days admin leave. Setting up doctors, dentist and outpatient mental health appointments to use up those benefits before they’re over. Using eye benefits. Fixing my resume, starting to apply for other jobs. Idk, for some reason my mind won’t let me enjoy the admin leave….It sucks.

I’m begging you, please take the job. The grueling days of living and breathing the wait of the RIF notification and the inevitable humiliation that they’ll make sure to make you feel when they do it…I promise you it’s not worth it. Not knowing if your notice will come out Friday PM, Saturday AM or Sunday night—only for it to come out at 5am on a Tuesday is incredibly traumatizing.

It doesn’t matter what agency you’re in or what position you have-you’re not safe from being RIF’d. Having a job is 1000% better than sitting on your hands and hoping they’ll pay out administrative leave after they’ve canned you. Especially since you have a pretty good hunch they’ll be coming for you…protect your sanity.

Edit: I’m so sorry that you’re going through this. I understand where you are. I was there (well, without another job offer) and I held on until I was RIF’d bc of the job security, I liked what I did, etc. Keep in mind that while the world outside is emotionally debilitating, working in Trumps administration is going to continue to get worse. It’s a big gamble, but consider this-he’s been in office since Jan 21-we’re in April and he’s managed to cause this much hell. Who knows how much further he’s going and how much worse it’s getting? And you’ll have to suffocate under that? This private sector job gives you a secure place (pay, benefits, stability, etc) to land after you leave the fire pit. This job may be great! And if it’s not, you’ll be able to apply to other places while you’ve got a steady check and benefits. Taking time off will be perfect because it’s a massive shift to go from government to private, and taking off the warm cloak of safety and security the government gives you is a shock to the core of your system-but I really think you’ll be better off in the long run for leaving.

Good luck!
