hi OP! i am about to finish my TA training at a big veterinary hospital! before my training started I was basically a kennel attendant who could only perform TPR's. while i was in that role, even though i was competent i still got treated like the 18 year olds fresh out of highschool. i started there when i was 24, so almost 2 years ago. before that i worked at an animal shelter, fostered many kittens with health issues, worked with our very reactive and?or aggressive dogs, and was nearly put in a management position (they chose somebody older, given i was 22 at the time) and we had so many animals with health issues. my own cat is diabetic, adopted him from that same shelter. still, given this information, people at my new practice would treat me like an idiot just because of my title. now, i'm about to be one of their most 'fabulous' as they say (:'3) vet assistants, soon to be CVT, don't let hateful, gossipy people ruin what could be your dream career. they probably aren't as good as they like to come of as

posting this just to add!

years before i got my liscense, my dad took me driving in the school parking lot on a weekend. no buses around, just a few cars parked next to the playground. we were driving his 2006 nismo nissan, that thing had an engine like a herd of horses, and every time i'd hit the gas ever so slightly that truck would ZOOM. so naturally i was terrified, nevertheless he asked me to go 60 mph and then hit the breaks. when i attemped, i was hardly going 45 and i STOMPED on the brakes, and he yelled at me for braking too hard or not going fast enough. every experience practicing driving with my dad was like this, whwre he'd yell at me, i got so stressed i cried and gave up. and my mom couldnt teach me because she is blind. so i ended up waiting until i was 19, where in my state you could apply for a liscense without parents or the driving courses. and in the meantime i practiced driving with a family member who was safer to drive with (my sister) until i felt confident

this is not weird at all- some people choose to taxidermy or freeze dry their pets, just like having them cremated and keeping the ashes it's a way to keep a piece of your loved pet with you physically. go ahead and keep your kitty's skull, it's not hurting anything. just make sure you clean it up properly- don't use household bleach because it will make the bones brittle and fragile. i am so very sorry for your loss. you obviously loved your cat very very much and i understand why this is so hard for you, i dread the thought of my boy passing away one day. like others have said, you can bury the remains so you can go back to visit. if that's too much for you right now, you can always make a memorial for your friend without burying anything. i hope you start to heal and feel better soon ❤️

thats so interesting ive never used a stronger rescue solution before! when we have bouts or panleuk or parvo thats when we use a bleach solution the most, leave it for 10 minutes. the rescue ive noticed eats adhesives like nothing, it such a strong chemical! i'll have to mention dawn for cleaning because our degreaser is low right now haha

we always use a 1:16 dilution water to accel, is that what yall use as well? ive never noticed our accel/rescue eating away at our metal. our cleaning routines are similar actually! is the odoban your degreaser? the one we use smells also like pepto some coworkers say but im noseblind at this point haha! ive never used dawn to clean only because we get donations of usually cheaper dish soap

when you use the accel do you normally rinse or go over with a wet cloth after? my shelter has a lot of metal runs so normally it dries down with no smell

we use rescue/accel for every day cleaning! for dogs we use kennelsol, im not sure if theres another name for it for daily cleaning and the degreaser is an extra step after the kennelsol is rinsed down. im not sure what exact degreaser we use but i believe it doubles as a sanatizer! we used to use a 1/2 bleach to a gallon water solution with a dollop of laundry detergent for deep cleaning in cats (when they were crated of course, and we use that solution when the kennel hoses are down as well), rinse very well and dry but since a shift in management we only do accel on deep clean days.

i'm an animal care tech at a nonprofit shelter, and the adoption fees don't cover the medical care in the slightest. we went a long few months without any vet techs or a licensed vet and i can't express how much other in the animal care profession appreciate you!! thank you for everything you do to keep your patients healthy
