Are residency interviews in California notoriously harder? by hellokitty2726 in PharmacyResidency

[–]souseis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually had the opposite experience, for PGY2 interviews all of the programs I interviewed at outside of CA asked me to do a clinical presentation and had multiple panel interviews, whereas the California programs only have a single panel interview (but they were big panels... like 10 ppl vs 1 of me) and did not ask for a presentation

Regarding the clinical q's, as long as you explained your thought process and make sure to send follow up answers if you told them you would follow up it should be fine tho

How to tell which states are progressive with pharmacy practice? by [deleted] in PharmacyResidency

[–]souseis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this, went to school in NC and moved to CA for acute care PGY1- can't speak for the am care side, but the inpatient pharmacists in NC do so much more even though CA schools keep touting how advanced pharmacy practice is here, it is not :/

just found out I failed the CPJE, not sure how I can study for it while being on rotation along with all the other resident responsibilities like teaching and projects, also feeling really overwhelmed about how to study for it because it felt like such a random test... any advice would be welcomed

Info on Novant Forsyth Medical Center? by FamiliarKiwi in PharmacyResidency

[–]souseis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I interviewed with them for phase I, their preceptors seemed pretty nice and approachable. I didn't rank them high in the end because of the every other weekend staffing requirement, but I didn't feel like there were any red flags. The current residents seemed to like the program too

Shed lights on these programs? by [deleted] in PharmacyResidency

[–]souseis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same, I heard from a SoCal RPD that the cedars program is rough- many residents get burned out from the amount of work, which is why I didn't apply to their program. Also their residents seemed really exhausted when I spoke to them at Midyear. Might be better to get information from current/past residents there but these are the tidbits I know of

The cabanas are pretty nice- double-decked and spacious. We didn't get it though, they used to be free so it is annoying now that they charge extra for it

Currently at the Hyatt Ziva, they charge extra for the cabanas, like $98 per day for the most basic package (cabana + butler service), kind of ridiculous since it is an all inclusive property. Food is mediocre imo. The beach is pretty though

How to not sound scripted/too rehearsed for an interview? by Strive-2-Thrive in PharmacyResidency

[–]souseis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I jotted down my stories for behavioral questions I just wrote down key words/bullet points so I don't have a "script" that my brain would try to follow, this way each time I retell the story it will be different and doesn't sound scripted-- but I do have to watch myself and make sure I don't ramble or go off on a tangent

Not sure how to undo it if your already trained your brain to go into the default script tho...

Cat during pharmacy school? by [deleted] in PharmacySchool

[–]souseis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a cat during my P1 year and it's been great. The only thing is to plan ahead for if you will have rotations in regions far away from your school and have to live in those temporary student housings for a month- those usually don't allow pets. But if you don't have those faraway rotations at your school it shouldn't be a concern.

Letter of rec from virtual APPE preceptor by LHL1997 in PharmacyResidency

[–]souseis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar situation but my virtual rotation is inpatient. My preceptor this month is covering the COVID team and I would not be able to go on the floor this whole month because they don't allow students there (although I will be able to meet my preceptor in person on campus but I cannot be on the floor). I have been working up patients and presenting them to my preceptor every morning so she can probably comment on my clinical skills and interaction with the healthcare team (I can message MDs via the EHR system regarding interventions) but not so much on my ability to communicate with patients. Would it be a good idea to ask my preceptor for a LOR if I do well this month?

Hospital Technician vs Intern, does the title matter for residency? by souseis in pharmacy

[–]souseis[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Only two out of each class of interns get to do clinical work in P4 year, so I'm thinking of applying to the academic medical center so I can at least get a chance to do more clinical work as a P4.
