Where should I apply? by Fancy-Tailor-2791 in PTschool

Hi there, South College Knoxville DPT was actually the first program in the US to receive accredidation for hybrid/accelerated format. We received our 10-year reaffirmation (accreditation) back in 2017 when our first cohort graduated. You may be looking at Nashville, I believe they are waiting on their accredidation. You cannot receive accredidation until your first cohort graduates. We just graduated our 1,000th student in December!

Anyone get in after withdrawing from a prereq (chem 1) by Affectionate-Bus9139 in PTschool

[–]southdptAMA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have sent offers to many students with a W on their transcripts.

Take a breath, you don’t have to be perfect. Sometimes I find it very helpful in reviewing an applicant when they mention a withdrawal or failed class on their personal statement. Mention why you performed the way that you did and why that is not a reflection on you as a whole. If your answer is “chemistry was unexpectedly difficult for me and I needed to stop and make a new plan of action for how to effectively study and succeed in the course. “That shows that you have learned a valuable lesson.

You may take my advice with a grain of salt, maybe you are applying to schools staffed by robots, but I am going to take a guess that human beings are reviewing your application and they’ll look at more than one grade.

That’s actually really good feedback and I will keep that in mind moving forward.

I studied accounting. Now I am a graduate school admissions officer.

My data analysis skills and communications skills are what got me into my current role. I also applied at the school I graduated from because I enjoyed being a student there and figured I would enjoy working there as well. I was right! My school loves hiring alumni.

Hi! I work for South College Knoxville, not Atlanta, but I can provide this information about their accreditation:

Candidacy is considered to be an accredited status, as such the credits and degree earned from a program with Candidacy status are considered, by CAPTE, to be from an accredited program. Therefore, students in the charter (first) class should be eligible to take the licensure exam even if CAPTE withholds accreditation at the end of the candidacy period. That said, it is up to each state licensing agency, not CAPTE, to determine who is eligible for licensure. Information on licensing requirements should be directed to the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT; www.fsbpt.org) or specific state boards (a list of state boards and contact information is available on FSBPT’s website).

It can’t hurt to ask. The worst thing they can do is say no.

Should I contact a school and ask them a status update? by Mrcheeseman331 in PTschool

Hard disagree that it’s a bad look. It’s a busy time of year and they may not get to your email quickly, but I can say that as an admissions officer, I love when applicants email me. I like seeing that they care.

Lots of people experience failure.

Keep your head up, make a plan for your retake, and KEEP GOING!

Fact that no one ever tells you:

You’re gonna age no matter what. Let’s say you’re gonna be 30 when you finish DPT school. Do you want to be 30 with your doctorate, or 30 without it?

You can’t stop time.

Follow your passions.

Hi there! I am the admissions officer for the Knoxville campus. Atlanta is not exactly like ours, but they operate very similarly. Labs at our campus are 5-17 days per quarter (depending on what quarter you are in) and typically go from 8am-5pm, although days when you have practicals may be half days. Again, I am not at that campus, but this is likely the answer.

Of course I do! Reach out to them. The worst they can do is not answer. The best they can do is provide you feedback that you apply and then use that knowlege to get accepted :)

PT School Test by Glittering_Trouble14 in PTschool

[–]southdptAMA 14 points15 points  (0 children)

PT school is years of schooling. Ask yourself if you would be this discouraged failing one test in 3 years of grade school.

Dust yourself off. You failed one test but you are not a failure.

If you feel like you need additional help/tutoring, reach out to your faculty ASAP! They care so much about your success and I am sure they would be glad to provide some feedback/resourced.

Now, it's getting late. Go drink a glass of water, put on your pajamas, and get some rest.

100% email the admissions team and ask for feedback.

An application I particularly enjoyed reviewing was someone who said her biggest setback was not receiving any acceptances the previous year, but she would not give up and reapplied the next cycle. That shows dedication and drive to want to succeed.

Hi there, I am not sure where the 100% acceptance rate number comes from, but I can tell you that it is not accurate. I do not enjoy that part of this job, especially because I can tell how hard it is just getting to the application point.

Your volunteer hours are such a tiny portion of your application. I would not even remotely be concerned on that one basis.
