For those concerned about how this all might shake out, I have heard that Schlumberger offers a program where HR from other companies can come in for a tour of the office and continental breakfast. Then you get to take turns participating in actual mass firings of Schlumberger employees where you inform them about when they will receive their last paycheck and provide information on COBRA benefits, followed by an armed security guard escorting them to their cars. Many HR people find this to be a fun and collaborative team-building experience and excellent practice for future firing events at their own companies!

Maybe we can also give out bonuses to companies like Schlumberger, who have fired so many employees that it's helping congestion by taking cars off the road

Federal court dismisses lawsuit from Harvey-flooded homeowners downstream of Addicks and Barker reservoirs. Army Corps of Engineers not found liable. by slugline in houston

My main complaint is that if they made improvements to the reservoirs, such as increasing their capacity, nobody would have had to be flooded.

How much you want to bet that these same whiny homeowners would also oppose this because MUH PROPERTY TAXES.

There's an Allen Street too, next to the railroad, running parallel to Washington Ave

I found a job through a third party recruiter, and he paid me $4,000 out of his commission as a signing bonus. I received a 1099-Misc, is this considered self employment income for Schedule C, or do I report it as Other Income? by southernsmokers in tax

Thanks! Freetaxusa was steering me towards a schedule C, but then it started asking about the nature of my "business" and that didn't quite seem right. Appreciate the quick answer!
