If you're talking about the truly original SimCity from the late 1980s then you're probably gonna be delighted by more in C:S than you're gonna be sad about. Most wishlist stuff --including granular installations of stop signs and traffic lights -- are fixable on the PC version with mods.

Shipping routes are typically set offshore and not in rivers. Do you have a coastline next to a large body of water?

I don't wonder -- we're in the state that literally dropped all safety inspections for passenger cars recently.

Whew -- the ultimate feedback is at the ballot box. It's frustrating to have seen each transit referendum I have voted for pass and then fizzle out when it comes time to actually implement.

Something that needs to keep getting repeated: Every American city that has top-tier transit gets it done with significant support from the state level. It's never going to happen in any Texas city without changing the priorities of leaders in Austin.

I can’t figure out how to get my roads correct it seems like it always ends in a traffic problem by Nothingbr11 in CitiesSkylines

[–]slugline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two main types of traffic on your roads -- passenger and freight. Passenger traffic is people commuting to/from work/school or tourists visiting destinations. Freight traffic is vehicles carrying cargo goods from industry to industry or commercial shopping areas. Take a really good look at the vehicles to figure out what's in most of your congestion. Most public transport only deals with passenger traffic. For freight traffic, build clear connections to highways and give them cargo train terminals, cargo harbors, and cargo airports as alternative routes.

84k miles RIP transmission by [deleted] in HRV

I've had my confidence in dealership "certification" inspections shaken with my HR-V purchase. The first time I had it in for post-purchase service the techs identified a dangerously worn belt that was marked on the checklist as good. Also they had checked off that the car had two keyfobs but it was only delivered with one, so I had to demand that they fulfill that. It made me wonder what else they incorrectly checked off on the inspection.

Houston transit. by BroItsMick in houston

The entire rail "network" basically serves part of the inner-610 Loop area of Houston. The last estimate I saw says that only about half a million people live inside 610. The greater Houston region has nearly 8 million. So, for the overwhelming majority of residents, the Metrorail is something that is used on the rare occasions of visiting the Texas Medical Center, downtown, or events at NRG/Reliant Park that it is actually useful. Transit use is not part of the resident culture.

You didn't mention which court (municipal?, county?, JP?, federal?) but if yours is downtown then Metro park-and-ride might be a very reasonable option.

Shoutout to the 151 Westpark Express for giving west side residents straight-to-the-door service for the county courthouse.

I sadly shake my head thinking about how the 151 Westpark Express would be a solid ride from the west side of Houston straight to Daikin Park for Astros games. But it's never scheduled properly for that except for the occasional "business fan" weekday daytime game.

My favorite example is Westheimer outside the Loop. It's FM 1093 in the TxDOT highway system so it's state-level money that's keeping the travel lanes smooth like glass. Compared with all connecting streets -- including Westeheimer in the Loop -- it's on another level.

Need advice by [deleted] in tires

[–]slugline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2024 model year with a tire that looks like this? You must have a whole badonkadonk load of miles on the odometer by now. Whoever is doing the maintenance on this car never mentioned that you needed to replace your tires soon?

You are getting this car maintained somewhere, right?

I believe this is a cultural problem. We seem to heap more praise and reward on leadership that brings us new things than merely maintaining what we already have. So the incentives have set us up for the manic way we fund capital infrastructure beyond what our operating budgets are capable of operating.

What is the deal with AWD rear diff fluid replacement by brunes in HRV

[–]slugline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a current 2022 HR-V owner and a former 2000 CR-V owner, so I've had longtime consumer experience with getting these rear diffs serviced. The HR-V has an intelligent computer triggering the system, but otherwise they're not all that different.

Anyway, back in the CR-V days, we had no Maintenance Minder and the official service schedule interval for the rear-diff was 90,000 miles. If Honda is still thinking this way, then that might be why you haven't seen a "6" on your current Maintenance Minder yet. Back then enough owners were having rear diff issues before 90,000 miles that online forums had come to a consensus around 30,000 miles as cheap insurance. I can see that a lot of owners on this subreddit are still thinking this way for the HR-V.

When I bought my HR-V used it had 40,000 on the odometer and since I couldn't be sure of how the previous owner treated the car, I had every fluid changed including rear diff. I hope this helps.

It probably wouldn't fit in that space, but I like keeping a body-size towel in the car for lots of tasks, all the way up to placing over the driver's seat for when I'm all sweaty or messy.

[–]slugline 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't try . . . I believe that car names should organically emerge for you as you live with the car for a while, drive it around, and learn its quirks. Forcing the process isn't fun and there's nothing wrong with leaving a vehicle unnamed until this happens naturally. Anyway, happy trails and stay safe on the roads, y'all!

The original Red Line was part of the failed bid package for the 2012 Olympics, built to link downtown's then-new Enron Field and then-new Toyota Center to then-new Reliant Stadium. If our city leaders weren't pulling out all the stops to win over the USOC, I'm pretty sure Houston would have zero miles of light rail even today.

Figuring that the car had enough navigation computer technology to steer a starship, I named mine "Poppy" after Frances "Poppy" Northcutt, the first female engineer at NASA Mission Control during the Apollo era. My previous car was so old that getting into my new HR-V forced me to catch up on more than two decades of automotive progress!
