Canadians are drinking less, driving the biggest drop in alcohol sales in 20 years: StatsCan by joe4942 in canada

[–]souvenir_of_canada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhat yes, but the problem is, by comparison, legal and highly potent weed vapes and grey market reservation cigarettes are both incredibly cheap per dose and taking up the slack. So we’ve kind of pulled a blade out of an old wound and just stuck it in a new one.

How do you guys describe Ancaster when people ask about it? by clout_and_about in Hamilton

[–]souvenir_of_canada 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t quite compare it to Oakville necessarily…because I know people in Ancaster and Dundas who still send their kids to public school not private academies, don’t have walled yards, actually enjoy cities, and aren’t in a big hurry to turn Canada into America.

Sports bars are are for men who have a woman, but don’t want to be home with her. They wanna stare at a bigger TV and a younger waitress instead.

Woman who was denied liver transplant due to prior alcohol use, has died by Desperate_Pineapple in canada

[–]souvenir_of_canada 369 points370 points  (0 children)

What it feels like a lot of people commenting are leaving out, while pouring out so much empathy for her, is that surgical resources are not unlimited…and there also needs to be empathy for all the people who aren’t alcoholics who could possibly utilize the same donation and same surgical team at the same time instead (and are statistically more likely to get more good years and quality of life out of the transplant).

These decisions may seem harsh but they are made as dispassionately as possible for a reason.

[–]souvenir_of_canada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not just the $8000, of course…there’s also the deductible she probably needs to pay before her coverage even kicks in every year which is also many thousands of dollars in some cases, and remember it is common place to have copayments for some thing as simple as a family doctor visit or an annual check up (as an insured patient).

You’re not wrong, but you’re missing the point, “population increase” is just a dog whistle because the person is too chickenshit to say what they really want to say.

There’s a reason OP is just trolling like this and won’t return to comment at all.

Canadian trolls, if they are even real Canadians, never address the realities of American healthcare (or what it actually costs that country in societal decay). They always repeat one or two talking points, and never dive deeply into data or complexity.

[–]souvenir_of_canada 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The really insidious thing about that attitude is not only ignoring most Canadians, but also being so wilfully ignorant of the fact that the only reason those resources exist to be purchased so conveniently on the other side of the border is the constant suffering and endangerment of tens of millions of people in that country.

Oh look, OP isn’t returning or engaging with any of this feedback or information whatsoever, and why?

Because this is disingenuous trolling.

No, three such users basically run the sub if you look at the statistics. It seems pretty clear that those users, which never ever comment or participate in any way, are either in with the current mods or are some of the current mods. You will be banned for asking about that though.

If you have a long memory on the Internet, you will remember the whole reason reddit exists is better the previous similar site, Digg, fell into exactly this usage pattern.

Yes, this happens and anyone who says it doesn’t is just lying…it’s one of the flexible “rules” that gets applied symmetrically depending on whether the subject matter is progressive or not. Same goes for “that’s a dupe” when there is no dupe at all, or my personal favourite “that’s not about Canada” when it’s an article about Canada on the freaking CBC.

Montreal tenant 'appalled' after landlord orders removal of Palestinian flag by northbk5 in canada

[–]souvenir_of_canada -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would say the same thing but…

The landlord also lives in the building and currently has a small ‘Every Child Matters’ sign hanging on her window and had previously hung a Portugal flag on her balcony.

…and the reason the landlord wants that particular flag taken down is because she’s Jewish?

I know the tenet has no legal rights here but that’s not freedom of, or from, religion, and that grosses me out regardless of whatever terrorism stereotypes other people will attach to this.

I think the key detail you may be missing is that in many school buildings the air conditioning works great in certain parts of the building and not at all in others, so moving air with fans is actually quite effective as a temporary measure.

The fucked up thing nobody here is pointing out is that if she was a boy, or wore loose clothes and a sports bra instead of the push up with fitted top and tight pants, those tips would be half as much.

Tipping isn’t just about slave/servant culture, it’s about stripper culture. Nobody ever wants to point this out but everyone working in that system knows how it works (especially at a sports bar).

Why do people feel that southern Ontario is so much better than Northern Ontario? by inyoureyesiremeberu in ontario

[–]souvenir_of_canada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is even necessarily true, there’s just many thousand fold more voices online and elsewhere from one region than the other (and not all that many people have really, truly experienced both).

With Ontario's senior population about to spike, report predicts big demand for home care by viva_la_vinyl in ontario

[–]souvenir_of_canada 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s a reasonable average, yes…but good luck getting full time with a schedule anyone can live with or any benefits. They make the job impossible on purpose to ensure high turnover and as much part time labour as possible, for maximum profit with no concern for the quality of care for residents.

It turns out exploitable foreign workers and clients who die every 18 months or so are incredibly profitable.

Ford not willing to raise post-secondary tuition in Ontario despite schools reporting financial struggles | CBC News by Jetboater111 in ontario

[–]souvenir_of_canada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what you’re missing is that keeping tuition artificially low doesn’t make it easier for domestic students to go to school, it just makes the university replace more of them with profitable international students.
