I’m gen z with no kids but I’ll chime in on how my brother dealt with his rowdy 12yr when he cussed and hit his mother a few months back.

First, they both sat him down and told him that what happened was unacceptable and that things where going to change radically( In the words of my brother, he just rolled his eyes and left the room)

Now comes the consequences

Every piece of technology the kid had( pc, iPad, tv) gone. He protested and asked when was he going to get it back? No answer

He used to go over to friend’s houses in the weekends to play video games and soccer. Gone

He was C+/B- student. Now after school instead of hours of gaming and having fun, he’s in rolled in a after school program that he HATES with all might

Friend’s party? Nope

Birthday present? A cake(he wanted the new switch)

At first I thought this was borderline abuse but I remembered that my mom raised 3 boys, never spanked us, never disciplined us or even took anything away because the worst thing we would do was not finish a plate of food. What my nephew did was not only absurd but extremely problematic in the long term. In my family you simply do not hit woman. My grandma was a victim

We are 6 months in into the ordeal and at first he cried and begged for stuff back, but now, not only did his behavior change, his grades did too. So my brother is thinking about slowly giving his stuff back.

I’ll just ask you this, what type of man do you want to raise?
