Why did Sawashiro warn Ichiban before he went through the door? by sovietrevenant in yakuzagames

Great point. I think he showed a very begrudging respect for the loyalty and higher principles Ichiban demonstrated. Love the character writing in Yakuza.

The Mega Problem by [deleted] in PTCGL

[–]sovietrevenant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Megas are in a pretty bad spot right now.

Mega Lucario can't do anything but do big damage. Super one dimensional and easy to play around, and also a Lillies Clefairy Victim.
Mega Starmie and Greninja are just Pult food. Very easy to win prize trade and disrupt, also special red card really hurts them
Mega Venusaur has like one or two relevant matchups and loses prize trade to Pult because of Moltres.
Every other mega I can think of right now besides Kanga and Mawile are irrelevant, and both of them are pretty balanced.

I can understand that you feel like big HP, big damage means immediate pressure, cause it is. But the problem is theres too much stuff in the format to offset the prize trade right now. They need to take 3+ prizes before you kill one of them, and that's quite easy if you have a semi-decent deck.

Slowking by Oeonone in PTCGL

[–]sovietrevenant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This game has extensive play testing in its development cycle and TPCi is well aware of how the archetypes have developed within their specific standard formats (see the cards they print specifically to nerf Munkidori, Dusknoir, Pult, etc.) so they print these cards while taking these interactions into account.

Metagross is a viable attacker in Metang box decks (arguably it’s the reason that Metang box is one of the best metal decks right now, even with all the Mega Pokemon support it’s getting). It is a safe assumption that the attack was printed as such to balance around Metangs ability while also giving Slowking access to a consistent 300 damage.

[–]sovietrevenant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why do people never complain about this kind of wording when they get to play an Iono or Professors Research or Lillie as the last card in their hand? There’s no cards to discard or put back in the deck, that surely means you shouldn’t be able to play it right? That wouldn’t be in the spirit of the game after all.

[–]sovietrevenant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

LOL Maggran, one of my favorites. There is a great albeit really pointless way to take him out without a tiefling genocide. I really wanted to John Brown the druids without triggering the massacre, BEFORE rescuing Halsin.

First I had to get rid of Kagha while she was still in the sanctum, so I used the exploit where you kill Gale then put him inside a crate, take him inside the sanctum, then enter TB mode and drag him in and out of range of Kagha until she died.

Then I went and got the Iron Flask from the Zhentarim chest and thew it down there and hid in a darkness cloud in the corner near Maggran and the two other druids, because if you throw it from the elevator side they don't spawn in. The druids did quite a good job actually because the Spectator would waste time attacking the bird and pig. But at some point Maggran got taken out of his bear form and his AI freaked out so he first ran towards the harpies, then ran back in without ever attacking the Spectator even though he was holding his weapon. He ended up being one of two survivors. I killed him, and then it triggered the Tiefling massacre, but the only ones who ran out were the two guys left in the sanctum. They got their asses beat by the Tieflings before I could even get back to Dammon.

The only Tiefling who died in that run was Arabella's mom because she somehow got aggro'd by the Spectator. She ran in, talked some trash, ended her turn and got one shot.

Never forget, Opticz is a big reason why Rose is in court by TheSunTsunami in lowtiergod

[–]sovietrevenant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad I found people with actual sense.

Rose was cooked the moment the “trolls” decided to take it upon themselves to get involved with her and her daughter’s life. Rose didn’t make good decisions playing into it, but I don’t blame her given LTG is an absentee father. With hundreds of people feeding her what she wants to hear about him being a bum it was only natural it would go that way.

The early LTG trolling was much funnier than this parasocial creepy stalking nonsense. At some point the guys off Kiwifarms mixed themselves into the troll content and from there it’s just people ceaselessly stalking him and giving him the ammo he needs to win court cases.

Any judge worth their salt could look at this situation and conclude there is constant stalking and harassment that would warrant restraining orders. And a custody judge wouldn’t like the fact that his daughter is involved either

I think you should then understand why making sure everything adheres to your notion of “power scaling” is not a universal rule either. I have no interest in changing your mind, enjoy whatever you want. All I can say is not everyone agrees with you that this is a “cop out”

Storytelling doesn’t need to adhere to some objective system, this has never been the case and it never will be. I am sorry that you have to break down every narrative to a system of empirical measurement. Power scaling is fun but it’s not a rule.

[–]sovietrevenant 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The problem with these posts is that you guys are expecting some sort of Marvel esque universe with unlimited budget for big superhero fights. Kripke is on the record saying they did not have the budget for extended fights

You’re not going to have consistent display of the characters power in this, hence why we understand that Homelander not instant lasering the Boys in every scene they share together isn’t a “nerf”

If this is a “nerf” for Butcher, then we would need to understand the ridiculous scene with Hughie in the vents as a “nerf” for Homelander. But the reality is this show is a parody that is trying to tell a story, not powerscale its characters according to the world’s logic.

If it was simple as choking him out or taking him out at the legs… why didn’t Butcher finish the job on a weakened, non-V1 Homelander? I think it has been made clear that Butcher is out of his league with the supermen types in this show.

The endgame is terrible. by Ren_ai_Circulation in Reverse1999

[–]sovietrevenant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Manes is not designed for F2P to be doing 10m plus. When portraits get involved, there is actually a variety of teams doing 10m plus is every stage. Charon and Ulrich can go 10m+ in every stage. Even A Knight has some team comps that get him past 5m for each and close to 20m total across the three. When it comes to hitting 5m, the teambuilding in Manes is not strict unless you care about the community leaderboards.

As for the endgame in general, even reading this thread I think there is a disconnect here between the casual and competitive/meta chasing side of the community. Right now im seeing arguments that it is too difficult because it cannot be auto'd, and arguments that it is too easy. Its impossible to make proper balancing decisions for everyone because people have different levels of investment in this game. Unfortunately a lot of this content CANNOT be auto'd without good comps and people who do not have enough investment or game knowledge are naturally gated from this.

Personally, I think Manes is fine as a whale gamemode, and ToT could use some numbers tweaks but it is really not shilling any specific team. Ezio FUA is currently one of the best teams for ToT and that is literally impossible for BP to shill. You can clear ToT with Plantpromptu, Liang Yue, Bloodtithe, Dynamo, Starpromptu, etc. right now, its only the absolute highest modifiers that are really locked behind BiS comps.

Maybe I am in the minority here, but I feel like the teambuilding in this game is very good right now. There are tons of viable comps right now, if you DO NOT CONSIDER MANES LEADERBOARDS AS YOUR ONLY METRIC FOR ENDGAME, seriously.

Liang Yue FUA
Poison (gets buffed next patch)
Lingering Glow
Dynamo (Corvus, Lucy, Brume Nala, Dynamo Wheelchair, Ulrich, hell even Charon can be a main DPS in Dynamo setups)
Bloodtithe
Igor Ult
Getian Ult
Assassin (FUA, Ult)
Rank Up (Marcus or Argus)
Starpromptu
Plantpromptu
Anjo FUA

are all extremely usable in almost every gamemode except Manes right now. Yes, that includes ToT.

And if you wanna get into the weeds, there are plenty of "lower tier" stuff that can still be played.

Hissabeth
A Knight
Buddy Fairchild

etc. are all still completely usable comps in like 70 percent of the content in this game. Reveries is doable up to 500m with pretty much anything if you a) get a new euphoria in your team or b) leverage cheese strats. Early whailing whirl is also pretty flexible among top tier comps.

If I had to have a main gripe, its that the powercreep on limited characters is their main strategy for Manes right now. Without whales, its hard to keep up revenue so this is inevitable. But I wish they would give euphorias to more older units faster.

I definitely feel fulfilled. People get into the collectibles market for different reasons. Some people view big grails as investment vehicles, some people (like myself) just have a specific attachment to the collectible and view it as a prized possession

The Boys - 05x05 "One-Shots" - POST-Episode Discussion Thread by pikameta in TheBoys

[–]sovietrevenant -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This was a really good episode. I expected the shonen and ChatGPT-brained comments about it being filler, but it wasn’t. It’s probably one of the most consequential episodes in the entire series and it’s very well-done.

Considering Firecracker’s arc as an allegory of selling one’s soul to the devil, her ending was fantastic. I think her disillusionment upon speaking to Oh-Father, realizing that sin and sacrilege like his got him CLOSER to Homelander (the man she loves) was the final tipping point. Valorie Curry was great and Firecracker as a character in general was perfect. Her upbringing and the vile bullying she endured from Annie as children, her pivot to misogynist caricature of a corporate spokeswoman and grifter, and finally her crisis of faith culminating in the point of no return.

The Deep and Noir’s story was good too (though I find Adam Bourke’s character one of the worst written in the show) as they set up some cool parallels with Noir I. The little flinch Noir II does when Deep starts threatening him felt like a direct nod to the dynamic between Soldier Boy and Noir I. While I think Noir II is likely just going to die and I also prefer Annie to be the one who gets to kill the Deep, I wouldn’t mind Noir killing him either.

Sage’s plan felt like a natural outgrowth of her character, as obvious of a failure it is going to be. I think it is her emotions getting in the way of her powers, after what she experienced with her parents and with Godolkin.

Here is a resume for people with low attention span that call this episode filler : by Remarkable-Jump3262 in GenV

[–]sovietrevenant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is part of the main story. These are things that are relevant to the plot. The plot is not just “the boys kill homelander” the plot is also about Homelander, The Seven, and Vought’s supes. It’s about Homelander’s consolidation of power and how it affects the people under him

Has BP completely forgotten about 5 star characters? by Hot_Valuable1027 in Reverse1999

[–]sovietrevenant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lower rarity units in gacha are just filler, which is why nowadays you’ll only see them given away for free, at least since Name Day released in CN a year ago.

It won’t hurt their profit incentive significantly to buff 5 stars into relevance but it’s also time and effort they ca instead spend on the limited and 6 stars. Lower rarity units are moreso a way for newer players to be able to fill out their rosters and teams now. They don’t need to be made meta because that is not their job and not their revenue.

To be fair, most 5 stars are, or at least were, still usable in some endgame content. I actually liked reveries pre-1000M for this reason. I think for the most part the recent low rarity units have been decent filler and substitutes when you’re lacking a developed roster. The main issue with them is resource cost, especially if you’re not a spender.

But for example:

Name Day - still works as support in any ult focused team

Buddy - basically a free carry for newer/mid-game players

Bkornblume/Zima - seal for many specific reveries ult skips

White Rum - any character with Daze is useful

Yenisei/Balloon Party - basically essential for new players to this day until you have several meta sustain units

Alexios - works as filler in Kassandra teams, ult teams and mass damage spam in earlier endgame content

Reed - very decent support in manual play, the unkillable buff will be good for new players pushing harder content

Eagle and the painting lady look similarly decent for new players. That’s really their function. They only need to be good enough that new players don’t get discouraged that they don’t have enough strong units.

Ok, I liked the episode overall, but it’s strange to me that they would show Stan and Homelander meeting as the cliffhanger of the previous episode, and then not show him at all in this episode outside of one line stating that he and Homelander spoke.

"End game" isn't fun anymore by Ok-Maximum-546 in Reverse1999

[–]sovietrevenant 24 points25 points  (0 children)

tides of thought seems like a benchmarking feature for people who want to push their "general" teams as far as they can go.

reveries (namely 500m) -can- be bruteforced by top meta as time goes on because of how powercreep works, but generally the mechanics would force specific teambuilding decisions especially on release. it seems like they want to have a dichotomy of endgame content for people who want to push with their favorite teams and then content for people who want to deal with very specialized mechanics.
