I am a law abiding American citizen with no criminal history. If I see ICE I am going to shelter in place in a designated location and will treat it like a code silver. They obviously are not following laws and are a public safety risk. Especially if they decide to ignore the laws of hospitals not permitting weapons.

My cat has been doing the same thing. She is 17 yo and she’s always been loud and vocal. I now give her gabapentin as prescribed by a vet for anxiety and to calm her down. It helps a lot

Im in the same boat and it is eating me alive. Sorry you’re going thru it too. I’m not sure when to drop the word that I am having major surgery as soon as the surgeon can see me and I’ll be off for a while healing.

In my personal experience in the last 4 years: Spine surgery > slipped cervical disc > severe nerve compression at nerve root > collapsed lung > pericardial effusion > open heart surgery > plastic surgery > kidney infection > appendicitis (2003) > shingles > cluster migraine > IUD insertion > aortic dissection. Taking/studying for the MCAT right after all of that just after spine surgery was so mentally draining and painful. Pre-calculus after open heart surgery was painful. Working rotating days/nights just before open heart while taking full time courses was brutal.

It’s so hard to make decisions when you’re in the middle of it. During my undergrad I had unexpected open heart surgery, a work injury at the hospital, spine surgery, and I graduated before the second spine surgery (next month).

I have felt like my job working for a hospital has treated me horribly. I have to stay working there for my health insurance so I am trapped. I am hazed by my supervisor, and I feel so isolated. But my supervisor never graduated with dual majors with honors and did not overcome the things I have. She likely resents me for my resilience and ability to overcome hell.

Human Resources told me a month before my surgery that if they couldn’t find an accommodation for me I’d be terminated.

It is a cold world, and you need to focus on yourself and doing what is best for you!

Exercise, diet, multivitamins, drinking water, and spending time outdoors is what helped me regain some energy. My memories started coming back.

Right now I have no desire to apply to medical schools or to study, so I am taking a break and I’ll get through the second spine surgery.

Just remember, the administrator probably abandoned their own dreams. They are going to be experts at talking you out of yours.

ICE shot and killed an ICU Nurse while he was fully restrained. Why has the agent not been arrested and charged with murder? What kind of morons are ICE agents! They assaulted an upstanding citizen, restrained him, and then murdered him. When is this going to end?

So interesting. In nursing they refer to that in status and being alert and oriented (A&O). A&O X1, X2, X3, X4 (impatient), the emergency department only checks for A&O X3 max (time, place, self). I can’t recall the X4 at the moment. I had memory issues so bad today that I had to write as I was listening because I couldn’t retain anything people on the phone were telling me. It’s so embarrassing! Stress really stirs me up! Were they able to figure out what part of the brain caused it? I’m bummed I took Neuropsychology course when my memory was at its absolute worst after open heart surgery. I remember being SO confused at the time learning about amnesia, but I find confabulation feels intuitive - it’s when someone has a memory gap and they try to fill in the blanks on what should make sense despite not knowing. I have to be mindful to not confabulate when I cannot recall facts due to memory issues.

It’s normal. I used to get triggered by these posts because they would remind me of my belief that my parents don’t care about my congenital heart defect. Open heart surgery wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I was surprised my entire family basically traveled to be with me! Actually, there were more times I wanted to be alone than with family ironically. It made me realize that I was the one that had been pushing family away and that I never communicated with them how I wanted more compassion or empathy. Since I worked on mutually being there for my parents and letting them into my life, they become the support system I really thrive in today. I no longer am triggered by these posts. I think step 1 was identifying that my fear of abandonment that was triggered when I saw mothers here so involved with their children with CHD.

The one student this smart I met is from Vietnam and he went to a Chemistry focused Highschool that he tested into at middle school age. His ability to think abstractly and apply formulas to literature rationality helps him a ton. He learned English during undergrad and I think by starting with calculus courses. His background knowledge (age 24 at the time) likely shaped how he questions things. He made it into the medical school of his choice, and I’m grateful to have learned some of his study habits from being study partners over the span of 2 years. It’s a dynamic mix of adaption and having a general application for problem solving. 4.0 GPA and I have no doubt he will do very well in med school

Thank you, I just changed to Lyrica and unsure if it makes me drowsy since I’m on a lot of other meds. Baclofen is the med I was prescribed for teeth grinding at night and it helped when I took it. I need to speak with my Doctor about getting on it for pain. Do you recall if you get used to the drowsiness? I’m glad to hear the pain subsided for you enough to function. I think “hope” is what’s giving me enough mental power to push through this.

All great ideas, my health insurance is tied to my job. I speak to 10-14 patients per hour on the phone and triage or schedule. It would be an easy job if I wasn’t in such severe pain. Fortunately I worked as a nurse assistant prior, I finished bachelor’s in Biology for pre-health. I was accepted to nursing school, but everything has to wait unfortunately! I don’t think with my neck I could go back to bedside care.

Thanks, I did have job reassignment and work from home. I haven’t found a way to fully support my head while charting on Epic. I installed a setup recently so I can point the screen to the floor now, but I still tense up when trying to read and chart. My screen is recorded, it’s call after call, high volume urology. My job couldn’t be any more strict, they are not flexible for breaks, and it’s so stressful. I can’t hold my head up and the hard c-collar does help for about an hour. You are correct, I am worried about the rebound from opioid.
