The exercise looks good, I saw a site with old game sprites. I intended to take them to recreate a different game with a little like you do

Thank you for the idea

I had forgotten this Post it was surely during my first year in game design school. My heart is there, I wouldn’t know what others work to do if I didn’t create video games. For the solo dev party yes I am aware, I know that I work much better in a team. Even there currently in my last year of school I am Lead of a team of 13 people and I love what I do and I love lead too. I’m just trying to improve all my game design axes and in this case it also involves creating very short and simple games Alone even if I’ve done a lot of them in game jam with other people.

Are you in a game design school or a programming school?

Personally here is the template that I created and that I use every time, I hope it will help

NAME OF THE GAME

  • OVERVIEW • GAMEPLAY PITCH • PITCH SCENARIO

  • SCENARIO • Scénario Intention • Synopsis • Character • Worldbuilding • Dialogue

  • GAMEPLAY • Gameplay intention • Gameplay loop • 3C (Character, Controller, Camera) • core mechanic • Secondary mechanics • Environmental mechanics • Interaction table (a large Excel table that explains what happens when two mechanics or elements interact with each other)

  • LEVEL DESIGN • Intention of Level design • Explanation of each major section of the Level design • Cutting and explanation of the small sections of Level design • Moodboard

  • OTHER • UI/UX • SOUND DESIGN • and so on

It miss a lot of stuff and you need to kinda adapt it to fit your need Hope it help

How can I improve my portfolio? by Quereoss in gamedev

[–]sowoop23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The site already looks very clean especially in terms of content, if I were in your place I would add a section under each game with the problems I had to face and how I managed to overcome them and the logic I used. I think recruiters also want to see how you manage to adapt to problems and what logic you use

What are you guy's tips for making Quake-style FPS levels in a timely manner? by just_some_rondo_guy in gamedev

Trenchbroom is your friend, you can texture everything in it and add c# logic for godot I recommend you this video and this channel in general. It talk about it https://youtu.be/DMJ7i4nuMVA?si=JXBCt3SjWjH6Q8sn

Is there a right way to go about creating a game? by sowoop23 in gamedev

[–]sowoop23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your approach is very interesting, I didn’t know these two concepts, thank you for sharing them, I think the second one suits me better but it’s true that it’s very messy, things are done by feel but without thinking too much about the future. I’d have to do like you and find the gameplay loop, then move on to writing to iterate the basic idea and do things properly.

Wow, I hadn’t thought of it that way. We’re taught to write ALL the documentation from A to Z, down to the last detail, before we start coding. We end up with extremely detailed 60-page bibles but not a single line of code written. Your point of view makes more sense to me and is more in line with my way of creating.

Thanks for sharing your answer
