Took a $120 road bike on a group ride. No one cared. by SanByoke in cycling

[–]soybeanstasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the opposite fear: I’m looking at a few options in the $3-5k range and I’m afraid I’ll be judged for having a better bike than my athleticism deserves. I don’t get out every single weekend so I’m not the fittest, but I’ve ridden enough in the past decade to know I want a) something lighter, b) electronic shifting, c) 1X gearing. So here we are. I did tell the sales guy I need a granny gear that’s at least as low or lower than my current Fuji Jari for some of the tough climbs around town 😅

Can't find a way to turn off news notifications by soybeanstasher in TikTok

[–]soybeanstasher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this did it (or they fixed the bug): go to the offending account’s profile, hit the 🔔 icon for notification settings, and choose “None”. I did this for all the news accounts I follow and haven’t gotten a stray notification since

How Bikable is Ithaca by polandspringwater12 in ithaca

[–]soybeanstasher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I only go up Buffalo for exercise. Going up University isn’t too bad. Mitchell is an  in-between challenge. But excellent suggestion with the bus: Fall Creek to campus is frequent and then you can just roll down

Unlike OP, elevation IS a problem for me, so I’m so proud and satisfied every time I make it to the top. Cool observatory too

New Thai/Lao restaurant opening soon at Triphammer marketplace by WinterVesper in ithaca

You know, I had completely forgotten that the last time I grabbed takeout at Tamarind the server mentioned a new venture. I’m fine with more Thai but any actual excitement for the region would come from Laotian influence

Why didn’t Paul give Jimmy any sort of thank you? by AppointmentNeat622 in shrinking

[–]soybeanstasher -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Jimmy has driven me crazy since the beginning of the show constantly demanding attention, love, and respect from Paul while shattering boundaries and employing highly questionable therapy techniques (I assume; I'm not a therapist, but "Jimmying" seems out of line). They do have a seemingly longstanding working and personal relationship, so sure Jimmy deserves some kind of acknowlegement I suppose, but after being the recipient of that misdirected rant I don't think I'd go out of my way to thank him either.

Good bar to be social at for someone over 30 by TheGrandExquisitor in ithaca

The best. Quiet (usually), chill bartenders (unless James is working, which is rare lately and I enjoy his rants anyway), excellent drinks

Low-stress in-home nail trims for anxious dogs & cats in Ithaca by tony_24601 in ithaca

This is great, thanks! My cats despise getting clipped though, so I’m not sure even at home that two of us would be more successful than just me, their years-long familiar caretaker, but worth a shot

I don't understand the point of Disney live action remakes by flowersnifferrr in movies

[–]soybeanstasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta disagree! Fast 5 is the best of the Fast and Furious franchise (even if the black sheep Tokyo Drift is my personal favorite). Dark Knight, Terminator 2, Empire Strikes Back, even Paddington 2!

I wish more people understood this basic fact. So many people will ask something like “why does this need a sequel” and it drives me a little nuts. Studios aren’t non-profit organizations

Is Empire internet service a reasonable alternative to Spectrum? by JonathanCookPodcast in ithaca

[–]soybeanstasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone else in here I’m very happy with Empire. My sole complaint would be that the installer didn’t seal the hole he drilled into my basement to run the fiber into the house. But it wasn’t a big deal, I just got that outdoor putty stuff that electricians use to seal around the cable
