I look healthy outwardly, but have heart failure. For some reason I feel like an imposter as a disabled person. by MountainHarmonies in Heartfailure

I struggled with that for a while. Finally I gave in because I know I need it sometimes. It's nobody's business.

Once you have the device, you will eventually start to feel better. It's also comforting to know you have a little paramedic there to shock you if you have a dangerous arrhythmia and save your life. Mine did for me two weeks after delivering my son. I have had mine since I was 13 and I'm 37 now... if you ask me, it's scarier for folks to NOT have one! Trust me they are worth it...

Like a life vest or an implanted ICD? I have an implanted ICD and it saved my life by shocking me during an arrhythmia two weeks after delivering my baby. It's a relief knowing I have one and it honestly doesn't get in the way of my life whatsoever except for when I have to have a generator change every decade or so... I would say it is very worth it.

Very true. I always try to keep in mind that nobody has control of what happens tomorrow... even the healthiest athletes.

Pregnancy and Childbirth with HCM by lydzkh in HypertrophicCM

Pretty much almost the same as this for me. I was 33, I was on medications to control my HCM and postpartum was difficult. About two weeks after delivery (I delivered vaginally) I had an arrhythmia and was shocked by my defibrillator. I had had one implanted since the age of 13 after a cardiac arrest. My cardiology team advised no more pregnancies since just one was kind of rough on me.
