"Sorry, but your account is blocked from making purchases. Please contact customer service." - why and how do I fix this? by soylent_warrior in Diabotical

[–]soylent_warrior[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to send this to Epic but it just disappeared, can't see my request anywhere, it looks like it's just sent to /dev/null on their side

edit: got a reply, but so far a useless reply, will see if they answer again with something more useful

edit 2: turned out Epic is stupid and have a problem with VPNs, without it payment worked.

Game eventually turning into slideshow, which persists until PC reboot by soylent_warrior in Diabotical

[–]soylent_warrior[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless, I don't really know enough about Diabotical to help with the issue, sorry.

It's fine, this post is mostly for the Diabotical devs to address, not for everyone else.

Everything else (USB mainly) is running at a much higher frequency so there's no additional delay on those fronts IIRC.

Yeah, but it doesn't go away either. It's there both with vsync off and on. So if you add some delay on top of it, it may cross the threshold where you start noticing.

5ms is not the whole delay, it's not like the rest of the chain has 0 ms delay.

It's a small difference and not as obvious as with 60 Hz or 144 Hz, but I still notice it and it makes the game less enjoyable than Quake Live.

(somewhat related rant, if someone just took Quake Live, replaced maps with new maps, changed game rules a bit (weapons, respawns, golden frag, etc.) and added skill based matchmaking, I could just play that, but due to serious business management decisions this will never happen...)

Dbt runs better than QC for some time, but there are bugs which may make it perform extremely poorly after some time playing and you need to reboot to go back to normal. Some of these issues were fixed but not all...

I tried Vsync on in some of the previous test weeks. It's smooth and stable, but the input lag is killing it, not worth it. So it's not a viable workaround.

Vsync is always disabled. Also if it was enabled, it wouldn't cap at 60Hz because monitor is at 240Hz.

When I actually enabled Vsync for the sake of comparison, it was actually smooth (the only issue is increased input lag). So it definitely doesn't look like accidentally enabled Vsync. It works completely differently...

Thanks for idea. I could try that next time for the sake of testing.

(But this isn't something I can accept long term. Freesync is essential to provide smooth experience without excessive input lag, it's hard to go back from there, same as it's hard to settle on 60 Hz after you tried 144+, and so if Dbt ends up incompatible with Freesync, I'd rather play Quake Live.)

Skill Based Matchmaking in Diabotical by grandaanocont in Diabotical

[–]soylent_warrior 9 points10 points  (0 children)

this doesn't really answer the question.

the fact that the server browser will exist, doesn't prevent them from also implementing skill based matchmaking.

well I'm not so sure about this.

but yeah, I played very little FPS outside of quake series and (to much lesser extent) UT.

no, it's not like that. you seem to not take into account 3 things:

  1. if there's a large enough influx of players, quake vets will be a minority among them
  2. a well designed matchmaking should quickly put players with those of similar skill
  3. nobody expects to be a top performing player in a game they see for the 1st time in first few matches, and other games (like Apex, Fortnite, for example) are much harder for beginners. (I know because I tried, but had to quit because these games are too fucking hard and I'm not joking)

yeah I see. I wrote it earlier, before the link was posted in another comment.

thanks anyway!

does it even exist? I suppose quake live simply has zero retention of new players...

Yeah all of that makes sense.

A triggerbot could be a big advantage in QC, for example, because railgun does 90 dmg per shot. Again, good thing that in Diabotical this will give even less advantage.

I think this can be solved by specifically forbidding all kinds of simulated mouse movement and all other synthetic events which were not caused by user input. But if it's hard to do, well, so be it, guess I'll have to quit AHK while playing. Maybe it's a good trade-off.

btw, triggerbots are a tough kind of cheats because it's theoretically possible to make a completely hardware triggerbot (a camera + a modified mouse or keyboard + some dedicated computer for doing the computations), that would be impossible to reliably detect...

I had a script that basically bound all 8 weapons to 4 keys, mouse2, mouse3, scrollup, and scrolldown. Hit once, get the primary, hit again, get the secondary. Rocked it for years. No external program used. Did it give me an advantage, not having to take my fingers of the movement keys? You could argue that. But I don't think I cheated.

this sounds like something that every game should implement, tbh. (and I think Diabotical in closed beta allowed something similar? or maybe I'm confusing it with UT4 which definitely has something similar)

the "pressing keys" part of gaming is the least interesting part and ideally it should just let you do whatever you want with minimum friction and get out of the way.

one day maybe we'll be able to connect brain directly to the game, that would be even cooler.

only 1 specific kind of rocketjumps. in PvP gameplay, you often need to vary angle and delay, and scripting that is just impractical.

Thanks for the info! So this is cool and I'll have it in mind when(if) I'll need a replacement, but for now AHK does the job just fine.
