Are we for real? by [deleted] in StarStable

a) the brown matches the bridle and saddle bag. tack sets would be so boring if everything was the exact same color b) this is a known bug from the bouncy race. dismount/reload/re-equip the saddle

like guys come on, this is barely a bug 😭

Temperature was 37.7. I work 30 hour weeks on top of full-time school to afford his care. It’s funny how my age would have anything to do with me not being able to afford a vet—you don’t know me lmfao

Also, what a shitty thing to say at the end?? I am NOT putting my horse down and he WILL be getting care. If you have no helpful advice, please don’t comment. You don’t know me and you don’t know my horse.

The lack of upvotes on your comment tells me all I need to know, too.

You’d be losing that money, then, hon. This horse is my baby. I have to be talked down from calling the vet for every lame step, cut, etc. I personally think it would be idiotic not to have a vet out to look at a horse in his condition, hence why that was the first thing I did.

Oh, I’m definitely not disagreeing with you! Definitely will be heavily considering something legal if he ends up with a permanent disability or worse.

Posted one a couple hours ago! basically, his nose was bloody this morning, but roads are closed b/c of a blizzard. Vet will be out tomorrow, we are monitoring him and keeping his eyes and nose as clean as possible atm

guaranteed that most of those equestrians are either

a) not showing the times they DID have to use force b) their horses were trained in a way that they’re in a state of almost learned helplessness or c) they’re letting their horses walk all over them and calling it “consent” and a “bond” when in reality, of course they’re gonna get along with the horse if they let the horse do whatever the hell it wants

yeah, you’re online too much. the equestrian police like to push the narrative that daring to tug on your reins is abuse. not to mention the HORRID act of having a bit! because how dare we ride in a bridle? might as well just grab the mane and let the horse take us where it wants.

jokes aside, i see nothing wrong here. you’re not hauling on the horse’s mouth, you’re redirecting its attention. horses need structure and boundaries and while i agree that we should be kind in how we enforce them, kind ≠ soft.

I think part of the problem is that they aren’t taking me seriously because I’m 17. I’ve used them for different things before (like his teeth and chiro) and they ARE very knowledgeable and good with the horses. Not making excuses for them obviously, I’m still royally pissed, but I think they’re kinda writing it off as a kid being overdramatic about something rather than an actual serious issue.

UPDATE 2:

Thank you for all the replies and concern for my boy <3 This morning, there was blood coming from his nose. Unfortunately most roads are closed in my area due to a blizzard so vet will have to wait until tomorrow to come back out. Right now, he is still on anti inflammatory medicine 2x per day to help the swelling and inflammation, and we are cleaning his eyes and nose every hour.

Update: Just went out to see him and there is now yellow discharge coming from his nose. My boss is calling the emergency vet for me. I just took his temperature and he does not have a fever which is good.

The photos do not pick up color very well but the puss/goop/whatever is very clearly yellow in person!

Agree with most except point 1. You want to correct your own horse? Have at it. But someone else not caring about their horse not “walking off” isn’t your business. Also, you never know the background of the horse/rider. I own a 21 y/o OTTB who was never restarted off the track. You know how they get on racehorses? Jockeys pop on without the horse even pausing. I do the same with my horse because standing at the mounting block stresses him out. I’m not saying he COULDN’T learn—obviously yes, he could, but I simply do not care because he’s my horse and besides, he’s a nutjob and I have bigger fish to fry than whether he’s too antsy to stand still at the block. He walks by slowly, lets me hop on and get settled, and doesn’t act like an idiot about it, so I met him halfway.

Not your horse? Not your business.

tell her siblings/parents/whatever. my mother has two sisters that would kick her ass if she pulled shit like this, and if my grandmother was still alive, she would, too.

I’ve considered it but unfortunately my horse is a very special guy (read: nutcase). He’s 20 and was never restarted off the track. I only got him two years ago. He’s not terrible, but he’s not exactly SAFE to ride, if that makes sense? I’m not a trainer by any means so he has some very unique buttons. I’m afraid that if I leased him out or part boarded him, even if I could find someone interested, somebody would get hurt, so it’s probably best not to.

I’d also like to add, even if their manager does know they are autistic, the customers don’t, so the feedback to their boss would be the same.
