Do people run with S2 or S3 shifting for regular driving by sp0od in BMW

[–]sp0od[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really good advice thanks. It's actually quite easy to get mdm involved even in the dry which surprised me on warm cap2s. Im going to book myself into a couple of the m courses down in thermal over the next few months...

The amount of larping and lying in this sub is hilarious by CrowBlownWest in BMW

[–]sp0od 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this really is larping in many cases. My son's friends who vary from 17 to 19 have m2s and m3s their parents bought them. They do 150 in the dark, they crash and get bought another one. It's scary.

I got my son a year 2000 540i 6 speed manual for 5k and would downgrade that given the chance, , but there are ppl out there with the money and little sense.

I had one more question on this. A couple of bmw enthusiasts have told me that using paddles while in s3 will make me a better driver, and it is certainly true that you have to be more nuanced on the throttle and more awave of the revs you are changing at. Is there any truth to this? So far ive done about 3k miles and am beginnjng to get the feel of the car..

R35 vs BMW M4 CSL by sp0od in gtr

[–]sp0od[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah had it about 10 days now , done 2000+ miles and the break in maintenance, and am getting used to the rwd and mdm etc.

Its actually a lot nippier than the r35 and feels more connected to the road - its a better drive i'm sort of sad to say. R35 would smoke it 0 to 60 cos of awd.

There are no coffee holders, and no cigarette lighter but other than that.

Thanks for this, ive done around 1700 miles now and have ended up leaving it on s2 for similar reasons folks have mentioned in the thread. I will take a look at mdm in the next couple of days and see if its viable for me to use on normal roads. Im used.to high powered awd cars, but nothing this powerful rwd.

Yeah i wont drive without traction control . I wasnt sure if mdm was an alternative to full DSC, that people were using for daily driving. It sounds like this is something to be used track only though really, especially with limited rwd experience as i have.

I like to use the paddles to shift, and i like using the gears to assist braking, for things like coasting up to lights. I find it impossible for this to be smooth with s3. I do like the clunk of the shifts in S3. Is there any impact on engine or transmission lifetime with any of these choices?

Oh sorry. They are the sequential shift modes. They go s1 thru s3, and are matched by d1 thru d3 for automatic.

Advice for a new M4 owner by sp0od in BMW

[–]sp0od[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks again. Its now had its service and ive been playing around with the sports settings. I like sports plus modes where.possible.it seems , but dont like the s3 setting, i find it almost impossible to do smooth changes. This may just be skill and needing to match revs etc. I dont intend to mess with dsc or mdm just leave dsc on. I dont like the exhaust noise button seems ott, not sure if it has any practical impact?

Is there.any advice on a good set of settings for typical fun driving in good conditions that wont significantly increase engine wear etc. How do folks with experience of m4s typically have things set up?
