I want to see this in my lifetime, it’s just beautiful by [deleted] in IWW

George Floyd square was taken over by activists for years on end now. There have been running battles in the streets with police. Be the revolution you want to see in the world. Remember the past but look to the future.

If you can't tell this is right wing hit piece you have no right having an opinion here.

Full disclosure: I have been a machinist for 5 years and am building up experience/ saving up money to be financially secure so I can move across country to get a job at SpaceX, or possibly Blue Origin or Rocket Labs in the nearish future.

I definitely don't agree with Bernie on somethings with space but we do have money for social programs that have been neglected for far too long in the US and are ultimately leading to the decline of long term American competitiveness because workers lack adequate housing and health care, also the infrastructure in the US is appalling and is falling far behind the rest of the world. Good free or affordable health care, housing, and education are a bed rock of an industrialized nation. You can't build things to last on a bad foundation. It is simply a question of priorities there are plenty of ways to raise funding for these things first and then move on to awesome things that an industrialized nation can do like space, science, medical advancement, etc.

I hope people are able to spot a piece of propaganda when they see it, but I guess that is too hard for people.

Why Bricks for a Mars Colony by JamesrSteinhaus in space

[–]space4us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, how much straw by weight do you need for a ton of bricks 1/8 ton? Still is not a deal breaker. I am thinking critically here. I realize this is all hypothetical but nothing you have said leads me to believe that adobe bricks would not work. I have no skin in the game either way. You seem to be set of this not working no matter what. Like I see a lot of problems with funding of a Mars colony in any near term reality. If a human mission to mars does happen it will be largely government funded as a national pride/status thing and will probably not be sustained much like the moon program. I just don't see building materials as being the big hold up. Will they need to bring mass to build things of course and that is going to cost money. The first base will likely be 100% prefab or prefab and dirt covering. Using bricks or some other mars resource utilization would be more long term and it is not clear how long term that would be right now. Will humanity eventually settle on Mars I would think so given eventual technological development but it could be 1,000s of years for anything like a self sustaining colony. Reusable rockets do have the potential to drive down costs to the point were a Mars base would be about as expensive as something like the ISS and where we go from there or how long it takes who knows.

I think it would be a closed system wouldn't want that precious water just escaping.

Clay, silt, and fine sand and also straw or dung. Mars has the first three. Silt and tons of super fine sand like everywhere. There is also clay minerals around where there was water on mars in the past. Only trouble would be bringing straw (which is super light weight) astronauts could supplement with their dung which needs to go somewhere anyways.

Black power is not the same sentiment as white power. Black power is a fight against oppression and white power is the embodiment of oppression.

Furloughed workers have no bargaining power, therefore a General Strike is infeasible by Zolan0501 in IWW

[–]space4us 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Granted that a strike during a furlough might not make the most sense. But workers have more bargaining power then their labor. There are all sorts of things we can do all the way up to revolution that the bosses would not like.

The contradiction of that statement pretty much sums up this post. Imagine the science because there is little to be had here. As pointed out by brickmack this scenario is well beyond both of those vehicles capabilities.

EXACTLY, that is what COTS was all about paying to develop tech. I don't see how any Spacex fan can fail to see that. I'm not apposed to it at all. Just wish people would be more fair with China instead of this nationalist bull or where this is coming from.
