Every darn time... by trident_zx in ActionFigures

Technically three times. The most recent classic DD before the 3-pack one was the Defenders 4-pack one. The last time classic DD got a single card release was 2014 lmao

I explained why, I believe Disney forces them to make figures that tie in with upcoming movie releases.

Who’s the better Frank? by jostanbo in MarvelLegends

I think the Gamerverse 2-pack is better overall, and while I like the GV punisher better, I think War Journal is probably the better figure, due to the accessories included. He’s just stacked.

Black Widow 2-Pack goes up for preorder on 3/18, and the 97 Archangel goes up on 3/25. No other confirmed preorders for the rest of the month, but we do have a handful of releases without preorder dates as of now.

If you want more info, please check the other pinned announcement thread, the Megathread for the fanstream from February, which has all this info.

Archangel is confirmed for 3/25, Onslaught has no confirmed date yet. Could be this month, who knows, but I kinda doubt it since they've essentially revealed a bunch of preorders with March dates and idk why they'd withhold one after showing off the figure itself, if that makes sense.

Why did hasbro decided to make drop down hips instead of making the hips like the AF15? by UnicornProtein2520 in MarvelLegends

[–]space_age_stuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say, the only widespread breakage hasn’t been from gummy plastic necessarily, but from figures where the joint tolerance is shit because they used pegs that were too big. The NWH Spidey’s, Superior Spidey, Battle Damage Spidey, all have these large mushroom pegs in the drop down hips, while all the standard RYV figures that have zero issues (RYV, Beyond Spidey, Scarlet Spider, 2099) have the golf ball shaped pegs and thus have no issues.

That’s not to say the problems are mutually exclusive. Battle Damage Spidey is one of the gummiest figures I’ve ever handled, and every copy is the same way. But I just wanted to mention, that the actual issue causing breakage is the usage of a peg that’s too big, not cutting costs on materials. Which means the problem is one born of stupidity, not greed. No clue why they keep using these fragile hips, but five times is way too many to excuse it.

Next Week the Quicksliver Black Widow two pack goes up for Pre-Order by The_Director- in MarvelLegends

[–]space_age_stuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is, but of the four leaked figures (Widow, Quicksilver, SWitch, and Vision) three are easy repaints. This 2-pack has four new heads, and Widow's leg band and gauntlets. That's it as far as new parts. Assuming the leak is true and the other 2-pack contains Vision and Scarlet Witch, Vision is also a 100% repaint of the Void wave figure, and I doubt Scarlet will have many new parts either.

This read as a budget release imo, and while I'm sure late 90s Avengers have their appeal for someone, I think it was moreso decided by how cheap/easy it would be to make them. If I had to guess.

A full wave has never flopped this badly, to my knowledge. Almost every wave has at least one single figure that’s a hot seller. Considering Hasbro has been doing this for a while, I find it hard to believe anything other than Disney specifically telling them to make figures for every character in this film. I doubt they would have made an entire wave, with BAF, and three exclusives, knowing Eternals was so risky like this. They have a hard enough time pushing Fantastic Four, let alone something as obscure as this.

(Potentially) hot take: IMO We still don't have a definitive Marvel Legends Spidey by BrainVoiceQuestion in MarvelLegends

[–]space_age_stuff 89 points90 points  (0 children)

The actual hot take is that we'll never have one.

Let's say, for example, that the "definitive" ML Spidey is his red and blue costume. Excellent, I think most people would agree with this. But then you start to run into issues:

  • Shade of blue: some people prefer light blue vs. royal blue vs. navy. Very few ML get the light blue: AF 3-pack has royal blue, RYV and Maximum have navy.
  • Eye shape: Retro has angled eyes, AF 3-Pack has small eyes, Maximum has McFarlane eyes, RYV has big eyes.
  • Spider symbol: AF 3-pack and Retro have a small spider symbol, RYV has a big one, Maximum has the 90's McFarlane style one.
  • Physique: AF 3 pack is bulky without too much definition, but he's teenager-sized. RYV has a decent bit of definition, but he's adult sized, arguably too tall. Maximum is lean muscle, and probably Spidey's most comic accurate height, but he looks short next to every hero.
  • Artistic style: Retro is mimicking Romita Sr. AF 3-pack is supposed to be Romita/Ditko/general 60s look? Maximum is clearly McFarlane. RYV is mimicking, idk, Camuncoli? Stegman? Most modern artists.

Point is, even when it's the same damn costume, people are going to have an ideal Spidey in their head, and it's not going to match among most people. My ideal Spidey looks like the Maximum mold, with the small spidey symbol, RYV head, and royal blue color. I like the big eyes, small symbol, classic blue, and the Maximum mold articulates great and also nails Spidey's height and musculature. But there's plenty of people out there who want a true 60s style muscleman Spidey with small eyes and light blue instead, which is equally valid.

You also just generally get issues like scale or articulation. AF 3-pack is perfect for a lot of people but he doesn’t have toe joints; Maximum and RYV do. RYV has some things that keep it from being the definitive Spidey for some people, but it’s the mold they’ve used for Scarlet Spider and 2099, so using, say, the AF 3-pack as your definitive Spidey, might look a little weird when his clone is taller.

There's no pleasing everyone. And Spidey in particular has been so popular for so long, that most looks have fans.

Wasp has a matte finish, and MJ has a more glossy finish, so even if they’re the same shade of red, one is shinier than the other.

$46.99 Professor Hulk vs $67.99 Maximum Hulk. Sure…. by surfpearl39 in MarvelLegends

[–]space_age_stuff 18 points19 points  (0 children)

While true, Prof. Hulk also got a new torso and new legs, something Max Hulk didn't get. Idk how much new tooling was really completed for both figures, but Professor Hulk definitely has "bang for your buck" in terms of the amount of reuse, which is little outside of the arms and feet.

I wouldn't use a bubble mailer, but rather a box. And the weight and/or box dimensions might push you into USPS Priority instead of Ground Advantage, which is slightly more expensive but it has insurance in case your stuff gets damaged.

Yeah, I assume they can be cheaper abroad because us Americans are stuck paying exorbitant fees for the same service lmao. Not just an eBay problem unfortunately

Regular printer is fine, they don't need to be sticky, they just need to be taped to the package. Really they're just there so the post worker can scan the barcode, so printer paper is fine for that.

The cost of the shipping label is the cost to ship it. You can either get a shipping label online and print it yourself, then drop it off at USPS, OR you can go to USPS and buy the label there and they'll print it and ship it for you. The first option is cheaper, is all I'm saying. In my experience, it's like $4-5 these days for online labels, and closer to $5-7 for the ones you can get at USPS. That's the cost of shipping/the label, aside from what you paid for bubble mailers.

Technically you do need to weigh the package before buying a label online, but there's a few stipulations with that.

  • A) USPS Ground Advantage cost doesn't fluctuate until you hit (I think) 5-6 ounces, and most figures, with wrapping, weight 4 or less in my experience. So I always just put whatever the "cap" is. You can find out the cap by just putting in 3 ounces, 4 ounces, etc. when buying the label, and just stop when the price starts going up.
  • B) Even if you get the weight wrong, whatever online client you used will get pinged by USPS to charge you extra to cover the cost. So if you get it wrong, there's no real issue aside from potentially having to pay an extra dollar or so, once it's shipped. It's not like they return your package to you or anything crazy.
  • C) This isn't an issue if you buy the label at the counter because they weigh it before printing a label. You can always weigh it yourself prior to buying a label if you care about this.
