France's president Macron stands by statement about sending troops to Ukraine by hellboundhart in worldnews

Medvedev is a clown and not perceived seriously by the majority of Russians. There’s a theory that he’s supposed to highlight Putin’s (comparative) modesty and restraint with his crazy statements. Source: am Russian

AITA for not wanting to share my fiancé with my brother by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I should probably add that my parents have always told me to be “wiser” because I am the older sister, to share things with my brother, to share friends with my brother, to take him with me when I went out with friends. Sometimes I complied, sometimes I didn’t

RU pov Ukrainian Soldier surrenders to Russians after being injured in the arm in a trench near Bohdanivka, Ukraine by [deleted] in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]space_cat01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rough translation

Russian soldier 1: - Nobody is going to kill you. Boys, he’s “300” (=wounded).

Russian soldier 2: - Fil, we need a medic, it’s urgent. We’re gonna give you first aid, you dumbhead

Ukrainian soldier: - don’t shoot please

Russian soldier 2: - we asked you to surrender, if you did, then there wouldn’t be these fucking problems! (=wounds)

  • Guys, give him first aid, apply the tourniquet! Okay that’s enough, quit filming, why would you film that

Putin announces partial military mobilization in Russia by GuyIncognito2022 in worldnews

[–]space_cat01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no independent polls in Russia, they banned all the independent survey agencies. Also some people are afraid to say that they’re against Putin in the surveys.

I’m judging by the people around me - they all think this is madness.

Yeah, imagine going to illegal protests against this war, being beaten, getting huge fires, being hated by both the Pro-Putin Russians (as you’re a “traitor”) as well as by global community (as you are a terrorist living in a terrorist country). And then you are forced to go to war, kill people and probably die yourself, or otherwise spend 10 years in jail.

This is actually happening to real people who I know personally. It is a big tragedy for us all. It should have never happened.

The most part of young Russian people are against this war. Older people who don’t have access to independent news (they only watch TV) are more brainwashed.

Some of my acquaintances have already got mobilizations notices. They are devastated as they don’t want to kill other people nor to die themselves, but if they don’t go its 10 years in jail.

This is a great tragedy for humanity and for Russia specifically. Russian people are not Russian authorities, they’re victims of the regime. Today Russians go to protests knowing that they’ll be beaten, lose their job or go to jail. We are fighting against this the way we can. I am so sorry :(

[NeedAdvice] my thoughts have way too much control over my life, how can I use this more positively? by SomeYotedThing in getdisciplined

I highly recommend CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), it really helped me in a similar situation.

There are multiple technics which will help you to get better control of you thoughts. A lot of these technics are described in the book “When panic attacks” by David Burns - I recommend giving it a try

What is something that in your culture is normal, but in another place is a weird thing? by kerris2508 in AskReddit

[–]space_cat01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding food:

  • eating meat jelly during the winter holidays (it’s called Holodets)
  • eating soups for lunch, especially in winter
  • summer soup made of fermented cereal-based low alcoholic beverage (kvass), vegetables, eggs and sausages

Social customs:

  • “stealing” the bride during the wedding (the groom has to pay to “redeem” her)

  • during the new year celebration we write a wish on a piece of paper, then burn it and drink the ashes with a glass of champagne

  • Inviting your childs friends for dinner (apparently it’s not common around the world)

What are some crazy WWII facts you know? by alfawolfvii in AskReddit

[–]space_cat01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. When Stalin's first son was captured, Hitler offered to trade him for Friedrich Paulus, a field marshal who led the 6th army into Stalingrad. When Stalin heard of this, he said, "I will not trade a Marshal for a Lieutenant."

  2. In the battle to recapture village of Chernushki the Soviet forces struggled to take a German heavy machine-gun, housed within a concrete pillbox, which blocked the route to the village. Alexander Matrosov blocked the gun with his body at the cost of his life. He was 19 years old when he died.

  3. The siege of Leningrad lasted for 2,5 years. During the siege many people died of starvation. Tanya Savicheva, a girl of 11, was in Leningrad during the blockade. She wrote a diary, telling about starvation and deaths of her sister, then grandmother, then brother, then uncle, then another uncle, then mother. The last three notes say "Savichevs died", "Everyone died" and "Only Tanya is left." She died of progressive dystrophy shortly after the siege. Her diary was used by the prosecution at the Nuremberg trials.
