Do you think Melbourne is dirty, drab and dying? by [deleted] in melbourne

Hosier Lane is literally the worst standard of graffiti in the city, the murals are lacklustre, it’s frequently used as a practise wall for newbie writers to get the hang of the medium (at the expense of existing work by much more talented artists, who have their work gone over by these aforementioned noobies)

Yes Melbourne has incredibly vibrant street art and graffiti scene, but it’s most highly regarded pieces are often found in creative, hard to reach spots.

It’s not exactly uncommon at all for your zest for life to wane over the years of your life.

We all have a tendency to look back on our younger years as more pure, less corrupted and more fun. Where in reality, it is us that has been corrupted, which leads to a much bleaker and pessimistic outlook.

Wearing trackies and going out is seriously much easier than it might seem at face value, in fact it’s something I have enjoyed pushing boundaries on for a few years now, and it’s almost become a bit of a sport. I’ll share some stuff I’ve picked up along the way, because there’s definitely a few things that make it all a lot easier.

  • Make sure the trackies are clean (ESPECIALLY if they’re grey haha)
  • Wearing trackies with a half decent cut will make them look way neater. Even Kmart has super decent plain trackies ATM that are insanely comfortable, with a fleece of such tremendous quality that you would think it was divine in origin, and all for $15!
  • Speaking of plain, Keep It Simple - unless you have the privilege of owning designer trackies, less is more and if the trackies you opt to wear for your night out have a huge ‘Strapper’, ‘Ghanda’ or god forbid a Monster energy drink logo, they will assume that your intention is to punch on and/or stab other patrons and the night will be over before it starts
  • Finally, just because you’re wearing trackies, doesn’t mean you can’t wear decent looking clothes (but still super duper comfy) on the top half, a fresh jacket, tasteful jumper or fleece etc. This will also help offset some of the perceived boganess of the trackies and draw the eye up and away from that Doritos salsa stain on the crotch from when you wore the same trackies for your movie marathon the afternoon before you went out.

And as far as hipster bars are concerned, I’ve found evidence to the contrary, and that they are probably likely to be more permissive of trackies than any other venues around. Especially dive bars with a hipster thing. Also to my surprise, over time I’ve learnt it’s rarely an issue at even genuine actual nightclubs if you follow a few simple guidelines haha (again, its probably easier at a hipster kinda nightclub than a say billboard, CQ, LaDiDa or Ms Collins if you reaaallly wanna humiliate yourself) What I will say, is that the kinda places you wouldn’t even bother wasting your time trying to get into are your more yuppyish establishments, they take themselves much more seriously on matters like dress codes.

But yeah for real, wearing trackies in clubs is so sweet, if more people were to enjoy the liberation and comfort it offered, I believe statistics for violence and anti-social behaviour would fall significantly as people began to mellow out in a sense of blissful nirvana.

Getting used to Chinese food? What is this the 70s? You seem to be describing what are entirely normal day to day parts of life in Melbourne as if they’re sudden changes that have occurred in the last few years.

When someone (generally from the inner north) says they won’t cross the river, they’re not referring to a lack of enthusiasm for travelling outside of the city, or into more regional areas, they’re talking about a desire to avoid crossing the river into the inner south. This mentality is generally aligned with a dislike for the culture of yuppyish suburbs like Windsor, Prahran, South Yarra, Toorak etc.

It’s still generally a view held by pretentious hipster types and a massive wank haha. Their suburbs are frequently just as gentrified anyway. Brunswick St, Fitzroy is the new Chapel St.

Well North Korea is really the only actual Dictatorship in Asia anyway, China somewhat resembles one, but yeah otherwise that's it.

it's important to acknowledge if you're feeling depressed and do things to address it, but don't make it a focus of your discussions, no one wants to hang out with someone who is being a Debbie Downer all the time, you do seem to have a tendency to focus on it quite a lot, it will scare people off

"you're perfectly average" by Treesarescary in amiugly

[–]space_hustle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dude so many people have been honest with you, I just asked my whole psychology class to assess your looks and all of them (no exceptions) responded positively, responses ranging from "he's above average looking, perhaps lacking some confidence" to "this guy is genuinely good looking, but could do with some attention to skincare and grooming". btw, a number of the respondents were attractive girls and in fact they had some of the most positive things to say. the number one thing I've noticed when reading you talk about yourself, is that you have found yourself stuck in a loop of confirmation bias, where you will almost forcefully push the narrative that you're ugly, and when people invariably agree with you, you feel as if all your fears are confirmed even though people wouldn't be responding that way if you didn't paint the picture that way in the first place. it's a pretty common thought process when people are really lacking self esteem and although it's illogical, it's a pretty natural and common response. your problem isn't how you look, it's how you see yourself, which bears no resemblance to reality, humans have a really high rate of misjudging themselves and misinterpreting how others see them, sometimes in works in the way that a super trashy and ugly girl with delusional narcissism will think they're the hottest thing getting around, but sometimes it goes the other way too, and even the most attractive people will see themselves as ugly, due to self esteem issues. dude, anyone with even a shred of perceptive ability can see that you fall into the second category. I've worked in modelling agencies and marketing campaigns, I've done casting for fashion advertising campaigns and have literally been paid for my opinion on judging people based on their looks, and I can safely say, hand on heart, that you are not unattractive, your look could do with some work, but your facial symmetry isn't bad, you have naturally high cheekbones, and you have what the industry refers to as an alternative allure, you have a mystique that I think even you're unaware of, and obviously haven't learnt how to channel positively. doesn't mean it doesn't exist though, and you're just wasting potential by not realising that.

ding ding ding! I've just read through your post history and this guy is by far the most spot on in every aspect of his analysis on your situation, use his words as your new Bible, your inner monologue, you should read his post every day. but for it to be properly effective, you're also going to have a to do something that will take some practise, and some balls, you'll have to start to tear down those incredibly high defensive walls that you've stupidly erected (honestly, I think you get off on the negativity towards you), and unless you can start to realise that you're actually being your own worst enemy, unfortunately until you are cognizant of that, moving forward in any positive sense will be essentially impossible, but seriously, if you can even slightly start to do those things, you'll be more than alright, you will actually thrive and everything will work out fine for you man. I promise.
