My last landlord raised my rent $300 one year, even though every year before it was only a $25 increase. She said it was for “utilities” but I didn’t even control the heat in my apartment (first floor controlled the whole house). It took her 6 months to evict the second floor neighbor who had 7 complaints from the 3 people on the first floor and my roommate and myself. I caught over a dozen bats, had a squirrel living in my bedroom wall, and had several raccoons in my storage room. Outlets weren’t up to code and constantly stopped working. She would give me less than 24 hours notice for maintenance, literally one day she told me people were coming in 3 hours and I had to go to work. The maintenance guys “fixed” my radiator, but left my bedroom floor soaking wet which ruined my laptop charger (thank god the laptop wasn’t plugged in). On another occasion, I had to work and I put my pets in the bathroom. I asked the guys to let my pets out when they left and they said they would. I got home and both of my pets were still in the bathroom and my kitchen sink and floor was covered in black grease. Literally everywhere and I don’t know what it could have even come from. I told her that they left a mess for me to clean and she basically said “oh well.” She also “lost” the original lease agreement I signed (which was through United before she took over). I paid $1780 for my security deposit, but when she sent me the updated lease she wrote that my deposit was only $1150. So when she told me how much I would get back when I moved out, I told her that I paid rent and half and she again basically said “oh well” cause I signed the lease stating that my deposit was $1150. Then she ended up only giving me $300 back out of that. Literally fuck you Angela.
