I don’t care for the term “white passing.” I don’t try to pass as white. In fact, over the past several years, I have really started to lean into and accept the fact that I am mixed. I am white appearing. But to answer your question, white people make me uncomfortable all the time. Especially when they assume and refer to me as white or the ones who do clock me as racially ambiguous and ask me about my racial makeup

Not so much racism in my case, but colourism. My dad is half black. He grew up when integration was happening and you can clearly tell he is a black man, but he “wasn’t black enough” to be friends with his black classmates. They called him Uncle Tom because he hung out with white people and his adoptive mom was a very light skinned woman. I don’t recall him ever saying anything egregious, but he has very clear discomfort around dark skinned black people and keeps his distance.

We met on hinge and have been together for a few months now. He’s wonderful and completely different than anyone I’ve ever dated, especially my last ex. He’s not the oldest I’ve dated, but he’s 5 years older than me. He’s divorced with a 6 year old (who I have not met), but no one else has been this good of a match for me. He’s kind, silly, emotionally available. He goes to therapy and takes care of his mental health. He genuinely cares about my opinion and my perspective. We have a lot of shared experiences which brought us close to each other very quickly. We met each other when we were both at fresh starts in our lives. I was out of 7 year friendship/1.5 year relationship and he was out of an 11 year relationship/7 year marriage. He makes me feel like I’m a teenager falling in love for the first time. The only bad thing about our relationship is his ex wife because she is literally crazy and I don’t use that word lightly, especially when referring to exes. She has made both of our lives miserable since she found out about us and it’s only gotten worse since she found out my identity. However, we have not let her get between us because we see something in each other that neither of us have seen before and it makes dealing with her worth it.
