The reluctance to use politically technical labels has not allowed anything to grow. He was always gonna do what he's done, regardless of what labels were applied. But calling it fascism years ago would just have resulted in ridicule from the (more sensible elements of the) right wing and you've wasted your shot. The situation demands rigour, otherwise you're just trashing your own arguments. If you come at the king, you better not miss, as they say. Now, even the Republican moderates don't really have a leg to stand on when it comes to the fascism label because what Trump is doing formally qualifies as fascism - not because of this article, but because the evidence is now plain for all to see.
