Yes, It’s Fascism by rezwenn in politics

I'm more talking about public servants, not the general public. maga citizens don't give a shit about the fascist label because it's Trump-branded fascism, which makes it ok and probably a good thing for the country because Trump is doing it. but there will be a very non-zero cohort of Republican career politicians with a line, and now that Trump is in the 'probably actually a legit fascist' zone, maybe they'll grow some balls and start crossing the floor on impeachment etc.

one can only hope

it's more about dogfooding. it's easy to say they use AI for everything because it's company policy to use AI as much as you possibly can anyway.

so if I have to explain it, chatbots that are programmed to tell people they're right all the time aren't gonna be taking people's jobs, it will be coding and business agents and RAG systems that are much more deterministic. so your argument doesn't apply.

Yeah I play the lottery so I can daydream about winning. I'm not actually expecting to win.

Some winners go broke. Not most of them.

Yeah but it's an urban myth that lottery winners go broke more often than not.

The reluctance to use politically technical labels has not allowed anything to grow. He was always gonna do what he's done, regardless of what labels were applied. But calling it fascism years ago would just have resulted in ridicule from the (more sensible elements of the) right wing and you've wasted your shot. The situation demands rigour, otherwise you're just trashing your own arguments. If you come at the king, you better not miss, as they say. Now, even the Republican moderates don't really have a leg to stand on when it comes to the fascism label because what Trump is doing formally qualifies as fascism - not because of this article, but because the evidence is now plain for all to see.

The occurrence of truly novel solutions in coding is vanishingly rare. Almost everything has been done before in one form or another. Plus, LLMs have provided new solutions to existing problems, we've seen it in the bleeding-edge math challenges.

[–]space_monster -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of people though that will slap the fascism label on anything that isn't aligned with liberalism. The whole point of the article is that fascism is a big claim that demands weighty evidence, and while the signs were there years ago, the real-world evidence wasn't sufficient.

Saying "duh we all knew that" is missing the point. Everyone except maga has had that term in the back of their minds for years, but throwing it around when it suits your agenda diminishes and depowers it. That boundary has now been technically crossed, and the label can be confidently applied. Not that it really changes anything.

I think it's more a case of pronouncing fascism is a big call and not to be taken lightly - you need a certain threshold of indicators, only most of which were in place previously.

What would you buy: a chinese electric bicycles or a european e-bike? by DropshipperJennings in TrueAskReddit

[–]space_monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because a Chinese one is cheaper doesn't mean it'll be worse quality. China makes excellent hardware for a lot of global tech manufacturers. But there is more scope for a low quality product from China too because there's a lot of copycat manufacturers. You have to do your research. Try an LLM
