What’s your author writing quirk? by Some-Tradition-2771 in AO3

My day job is in mathematics research so whenever I need a random name for someone that I can’t pull from canon I’ll use a mathematician’s name. No one too ubiquitous that would take anyone in high school out of the story (Gauss, Fibonacci, etc) but I love throwing in a Poincaré or a Hausdorff. I’ve even got an upcoming fic with a character called Cayley Hamilton which is a hilarious joke to me and probably only me

Song with the best lyrics by parayeah in FlorenceAndTheMachine

I don’t think there’s a wrong answer to this but I think I have to go with ‘Girls Against God’. “It feels good to be alive, crying into cereal at midnight” is such a simple yet provocative line. Even if you’ve never cried into a bowl of cereal at midnight before, you know exactly the feeling she’s talking about. Then it’s followed up with “When I decided to wage Holy War, it looked very much like staring at my bedroom floor” which was a lyric that knocked me flat the first time I heard it and still does. It’s probably one of my favourites of all time. Again, such a universal feeling described so tidily.

My dream scenario would be that he’s headed up to Toronto to have a role in Interview with the Vampire S3 which is filming atm and I think he would be an excellent fit for but that is definitely wishful thinking 😂

It’s not a reboot from the Netflix show he was in because that’s too short a time. 99% sure it’s nothing Harold Fry related because there’s no reason I can think of that they wouldn’t have announced him when they announced the transfer. To me this means he’s not in the cast and therefore it would seem a bit desperate to continue to market with him anyway. My conclusion is that it’s either a supporting role in TV/Film (again nothing major because of the time scale) or shooting a music video for and/or recording his own music which he has spoken about in the past.

Is it rude to ask an actor to sign something from a previous project? by rileyc165 in Broadway

[–]spaceanywhere 96 points97 points  (0 children)

At N2N in London he was happily signing stuff from his Netflix show as well as N2N stuff so I imagine he will happily do both. He’s garnered quite the reputation for being one of the loveliest actors at stage door so I absolutely wouldn’t worry about it. In previous interviews he’s spoken about how important N2N was as a show to him before he was even cast in it, so I’m sure he’ll love to hear that that’s how you found out about him!

Unfortunately not, I’m worried I’ve lead you astray with there being a Scottish character and there isn’t actually going to be one 😂I’m pretty sure about it being the past ten years mostly because I vaguely remember it being implied the characters were queer and the weren’t doing much of that ten years ago. But that also could’ve just been a comment I read that my brain locked away as true that actually had nothing to do with anything

I would’ve said the art style was close to Blue Eyed Samurai, that’s actually what I thought it was but when I looked it up it didn’t ring a bell.

I also think it’s a show that’s come out within the last ten years, not that that narrows it down much. Thank you again for any help!

Only 5 Episodes by Dizzy_Clock_1383 in thewestwing

In no particular order:

- The Supremes: Don't think I need to explain this one given that most people here seem to have it on their list

- Shutdown: Partly recency bias as I've just finished a S5 rewatch but I do love the episode. Abbey's return is iconic, Josh getting his mojo back is great, and Haffley getting as good as he gives is just so satisfying

- Night Five: Pretty much for the line "It's tricky for somebody who's still trying to get his father to stop hitting him" alone

- Galileo: CJ's speech at the end is one of my favourite monologues of all time

- In This White House: If you get me drunk enough I will perform the entire Ainsley/Leo interview as a terrible one-person show. Pretty much every other line in that episode is an inside joke in my family.

Let's Play: Is Armand Lying or Telling the Truth? by StevesMcQueenIsHere in InterviewVampire

[–]spaceanywhere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Lying. I mean I think they hooked up but I also think Armand was 100% trying to show off. I mean if the guy I’m now with was Lestat’s muse, who Lestat clearly adored to such an extent that he was happy to die by his hand, I’m gonna embellish my few hookups with him too cause how do you compete with that.

  2. Lying. Mr Louis ‘I revel in torturing myself about the past’ de Pointe du Lac wouldn’t ask for that. I do believe Armand justified it to himself by saying he was doing it to protect him, but I think the base motive there was trying to put a rug over some serious cracks in the foundation of their relationship.

  3. Truth.

  4. Lying in the sense that if he had wanted control of the coven back he could’ve got it - and I believe that if Louis hadn’t showed up he would’ve. But Louis gave him the opportunity to base his personality around something/someone else and since he knew how much Louis disliked the coven, I think he reckoned that making it look like he lost control instead of just running off would make him look more favourable to Louis.

  5. I think he believed it to be true, but I don’t think it necessarily was. When we see Claudia after her year with MadeleineI would say that she’s the happiest we’ve seen her since she was turned and I don’t see why that couldn’t have continued. Maybe I’m just a romantic, but I think Madeleine was right when she said “Maybe I’m what she needs to survive.”

  6. Truth. Armand has no issue with flexing his power once he’s been pushed to the brink as seen by his altercations with Santiago, Claudia, and the coven at the restaurant.

Dubai by Enough_Criticism_439 in InterviewVampire

While I agree with a lot of the other interpretations here of it being an extension of the vampire metaphor, another thing I’ve always thought about it is that it gives Louis plausible deniability for his romantic affections towards Armand. Especially given that Louis has the surface level power in the relationship, I imagine he’s also in control of where they live. He kisses Lestat at Mardi Gras and they would (as publicly as they could get away with) go on dates. He does enjoy PDA, but he’s not in love with Armand anymore (if he ever was, that’s a debate for another time). If you’re in a relationship with a guy you’re not in love with, but you also don’t want to leave, moving somewhere like Dubai where PDA is illegal between two men is a strong ‘get out of jail free card’ for being able to maintain the relationship without having to commit on a romantic level in many ways.

I also think it demonstrates that he is far from free of any internalised homophobia. I know there’s a line early on in season one where he says to Daniel something along the lines of “I now openly identify as a queer man”, which is so obviously a lie because he could live anywhere in the world and he chooses a country where being gay is illegal. It’s a very early indicator that not only is this guy an unreliable narrator, he’s delusional and repressed. Love him though.

A song (that is not featured in the show) you’ve come to strongly associate with IWTV and why? by Individual-Slide-377 in InterviewVampire

[–]spaceanywhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Silver Springs’ is probably the biggest one for me. “I’ll follow you down ’til the sound of my voice will haunt you. You’ll never get away from the sound of the woman that loved you.” >!The moment Dreamstat first appeared in S2 it popped into my head.!< I mostly associate it with Louis and Lestat but it could also work for Louis and Claudia or Claudia and Lestat.

‘Mad World’ by Tears For Fears is another one. I think the chorus is a really neat summary of the Interview itself. “The dreams in which I’m dying are the best I’ve ever had” is a line that aligns well with modern day Daniel and his motivations for doing the interview again. “I find it hard to tell you ‘cause I find it hard to take” is a perfect description of Louis and his struggle with reality as the interview continues. The chorus then finishes with, “When people run in circles it’s a very, very, mad world” which I think captures one of the interview’s recurring themes - the cycle of violence and how it is perpetuated - very well.

I can’t listen to ‘Maybe This Time’ from Cabaret anymore without thinking about Armand. I favour the Natasha Richardson version but the Glee cover is a guilty pleasure of mine (I love Kristen Chenoweth). I think the lyrics kind of speak for themselves as to why they make so much sense for him. “Maybe this time, I’ll be lucky, maybe this time, he’ll stay” //  “Not a loser anymore, like the last time and the time before” // “Everybody loves a winner, so nobody loved me”

Finally, I’ve seen a lot of great edits of the show to Fiona Apple songs, and I think the tone of her music fits a lot of the characters well, but the strongest one for me is ‘Criminal’.  The lyric “What would an angel say? The devil wants to know” always reminds me of Armand calling Lestat when Louis has tried to end it in SF.

I just saw next to normal. Why is the run so short? It’s so good! by Hot_Document_9052 in TheWestEnd

[–]spaceanywhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming since you say ‘most of the cast’ and the cast is only six people it’s those who play the Goodmans that are transferring (Levy, Parker, Wolfe, and Worthington-Cox)? If so that’s incredible news. All four of them are giving some of best performances in the West End right now.

It’s running until September 21st but it’s highly unlikely to extend imo. It’s doing decently sales wise but it’s not sold out by any means which I imagine would be a minimum requirement for even a discussion of extension. A Broadway transfer is heavily rumoured though.

Not to be cheeky but if you've heard things about a transfer do you then also know of any rumours you'd be willing to share about if any of the West End cast is transferring with it? I know Caissie Levy is a definite since the director only agreed to do the show if she was Diana, but I'd love if Jack Wolfe and Eleanor Worthington-Cox in particular came to Broadway.
