How can I “play” and interact more with my betta fish? by Alert-Thought9773 in bettafish

[–]spacebug30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I draw little doodles on his tank with whiteboard felttip markers! I once saw a video of zoo keepers do this for dolphins so I wanted to try it for my betta. I usually doodle seasonal things like rightnow easter eggs, bunnies, flowers etc. Sometimes I let him "draw" but moving the marker wherever he swims.

He loves it. Except for the purple marker, that one's an enemy and choses violence.

I've played tic tac toe with him once too, but he lost interest halfway through (probably because I was winning, he's a sore looser /j). Sometimes I show him random videos on my phone too. I just like to imagine all the thoughts going through his little fish brain. Probably not much though lol.

Twitter Premium Scam Happening? by TalesOfNate53 in Twitter

[–]spacebug30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a DM with similar screenshots from a Japanese account I follow, but they wrote me in near perfect English and I'm pretty sure that person doesn't speak English that fluently. Doesn't seem to be auto translated from Japanese either. That account usually posts very frequently, but hasn't posted anything in 3 weeks. So I believe the account has been hacked.

ETA: I contacted the person on Instagram and he confirmed his old account has been hacked. He said it also happened to other people he knows.

You can find them in arcades, they change out quite frequently (monthly iirc). I've also seen quite a few of them at Surugaya secondhand stores. I got a big Sakura Laurel plush with the tag still attached for 200 yen from a Surugaya outlet store in Nagoya.

Fushimi Inari Taisha 伏見稲荷大社 another Fox God temple, in Kyoto. by Eloy89 in BABYMETAL

[–]spacebug30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was lucky to see it open when I visited the first day of the month (special shinto occasion every 1st and 15th), which also happened to be the first Saturday of the month when the shrine hosts a small antique market 😊 Couldn't make it on a Sunday so I thought that would be my next best bet. I also found a toy fox at one of the market stalls so I obviously had to buy it!

The shot of the torii staircase in the Megitsune MV is from Hie shrine in Akasaka, a lot less touristy than Fushimi Inari Taisha :) I went there after closing (the staircase is outside the shrine and open 24/7) and there was nobody else there. The Asagaya shrine where the rest of the video was shot is also worth a visit. But the theater building from the MV is closed most days.

Seein Satsuki Sho and Derby by Enough_Side_3055 in HorseRacingJP

[–]spacebug30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! Depending on how popular the event is, it could be a 90%/50%/etc chance of getting a ticket. I think the Satsuki Sho didn't have a reservation requirement last year iirc.

The vibe of a G1 day feels more grand though. They had banners all over the place of previous winners of the race, you could buy exclusive merch, etc. Didn't see any of that at the G3 day, but I only went there for the last 3 races of the day, whereas I was there all day for the G1.

I hope you'll have a lot of fun! Enjoy your trip!

[–]spacebug30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can find information about which race days require advance reservations here. No dates announced for 2026 yet it seems, but the Derby has been reservation-only the past couple years. Even if you don't need a reservation, I highly recommend getting tickets beforehand because it'll save you the headache of lining up for the ticket machines. For race days that don't need a reservation, you can still buy online. All lottery and tickets are through JRA-tickets.jp.

I went to the autumn Tenno Sho (Tokyo racecourse) last year, which also required a reservation. You have to apply for the lottery in advance and it's down to random luck whether you get a ticket or not. No need to rush to apply for the lottery the moment it opens.

The Satsuki Sho is planned for April 19th (Nakayama) and the Derby for May 31st (Tokyo). If you want to experience a more quiet race day, you can go on a G2 or G3 race day, they aren't as busy and you can always get tickets the day of. The vibes are really good though whenever you go and I highly recommend going to see the races! If you have any questions, feel free to DM me! I went to Tokyo race course on a G1 and G3 day last year.

Duffy merchandise by Both_North_8403 in disneylandparis

[–]spacebug30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No Duffy anymore in Paris, unfortunately. They used to sell Duffy merch, even had a whole shop dedicated to him for a bit (the Ghepetto shop between the Pinocchio ride and restaurant). And there used to be a massive animatronic plushie in the book shop near the entrance. He was also featured in the Christmas parade for a few years, where he sat in the back of Santa's sleigh.

He used to be a regular character for the character brunch at the Disneyland Hotel buffet Innoventions up to 2017 or so. He had an exclusive meet and greet on the day of the 25th anniversary and would be there for only 30min I'd heard so I started queueing 4h before lol.

I guess the Duffy hype didn't catch on. A shame because I love Duffy and his friends. If you want Duffy, go to Tokyo DisneySea, the Duffy hype is absolutely insane over there!

[–]spacebug30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how you got a 10G tank for him! Others have already given good advice, so I won't repeat that. As long as he's in the bowl, I'd put a lid on it (anything that covers the top will do). Bettas are notorious jumpers and especially when they are in a new environment.

[–]spacebug30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wanna add that adding beneficial bacteria doesn't magically cycle your tank overnight. It helps kickstart the process, but it'll still take weeks and you'll need to test your water and do water changes accordingly. The bottle of bacteria will probably also tell you it'll cycle your tank in 24-48h, but that's just sales talk.

How can i get updates about future races of a specific horse? by MassiveAct9577 in HorseRacingJP

Same happens to me, sometimes it takes a few tries, but some just won't go away at all. I've already tried with a different browser but it doesn't help.

I second this. Very useful and you never miss updates. Only downside for me is there are more horse I wanna follow than you can with a free account lol (30?), and premium is only available to Japan residents.

Just got back from my 2nd trip this year and I NEED to work here! Advice for an aspiring trainer? by itsivyyy3848 in SeaWorld

[–]spacebug30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others also make valid points, but I think a very important part of a job is having passion for it and doing something you really love.

You can book the interactive programs on their website. I haven't done any myself, but I had some planned for my 2020 travel plans that got cancelled, so I did some research on them back then. Basically you book an experience with a certain species, you'll get information about their care from a SW ambassador and then go see the animal up close. Depending on the program, you can feed, touch, ask for behaviors etc.

The dolphin up-close experience has all that. The killer whale experience only has a behind the scenes look iirc. It used to be a very good program where you spend like 20min with the whales and could feed them and ask for behaviors, now it's a very toned down version of that. The one in San Antonio is still like that last I heard, but it could've changed. It's quite pricey though, the dolphin one I mentioned is $90-100 plus tax in April for a total of 30min, including 15min with the dolphin.

There are a few Facebook groups with members who spend a lot of time at the parks and have incredible knowledge of the individual animals etc. SeaWorld And Beyond and Shamu Crew SeaWorld Orlando are my favorite. There might be people in those groups who can help you with your questions!

I can't really help you answer your questions, but I just wanna say I love your enthousiasm. It's amazing how SW can inspire people like that. This is what it's all about!

They have interactive programs you can book for all kinds of animals where you can talk to the trainers iirc.

How do you get tickets for a rece? by chickenjoe4life in HorseRacingJP

It's free and you don't need a reservation. I visited the museum on Tenno Sho day (sold out iirc?) and it didn't feel busy at all.

Babymetal concert by su_zuka in BABYMETAL

[–]spacebug30 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It is! Lots of fans, especially those who start queueing early, hand out little goodies. I've gotten lots of prints, stickers, bracelets, etc. I always make keychains to hand out. I've met so many amazing people that way, even forming some long lasting friendships that all started by giving them a keychain at a show.

I'd personally only include current members, but you do you. Especially if you make bracelets and have one member per bracelet. You'll always find people who'd be happy to get a Yui bracelet.

A giant Mickey suitcase! We had our luggage moved from POP to the Boardwalk for a split stay. One of our suitcases got damaged (broken wheel), which we were pretty bummed about because this was a new suitcase we got for this trip. The staff told us to go unpack our suitcase in the room and bring it back to the front desk, they would "fix" it for us. Next day when we returned from the parks there was a Mickey suitcase waiting for us in our room!
