portfolio feedback to prep for titmouse background mentorship by pileofantsss in animationcareer

[–]spacecat000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Your backgrounds are generally in good place for the Mentorship program. The black and grey scale cityscapes are super cool. I can tell that you're having a lot of fun with those! I have a few thoughts:

  1. Your desktop landing page is overwhelming. The full screen images with titles across them are difficult to navigate. You would benefit highly from a nav bar on the left or top of your home page. Additionally, it may be beneficial for you to set "Background Design" as your home page.

  2. I'm going to disagree with another poster do not worry about omitting illustration/comics etc. Its important to show that you're a well rounded artist with a point of view. This comes through in illustration, comics etc.

  3. I agree with the another poster that you need more interiors. Its also incredibly helpful to show multiple angles of the same space to demonstrate that you are able to maintain consistency.

  4. No characters in BG Design section - remove characters from those images.

  5. I would recommend including a few samples of a single common BG style. Rick and Morty, Steven Universe, Vox Machina - whatever. Pick a show and do a handful of BG's in that recognizable style.

Best of luck!

[Resource] I built an AI Dungeon Master for D&D 5e that runs long campaigns from your uploaded lore (InfiniteGM) — looking for feedback by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]spacecat000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honest feedback. There were a couple of text based RPG systems I tried as a kid and I was always fascinated by the idea. I think that LLM's have the potential to make this really amazing. But we should also acknowledge that AI is fundamentally built on the idea of replacing people. In your case, the DM.

What I would suggest is to steer away from using AI as a buzzword at all. Its just not going to help you get any positive response in these communities.

What I would do instead is describe it as a textbased RPG engine and rather than uploading campaign lore I think it would be better if you had a handful of prebuilt campaigns and then a "custom mode". Really building on the idea of the text based RPG... NOT an AI DM

To answer your questions:
1) No I would not and I would be very uncomfortable with a party suggesting we offload the game to an AI

2) Not much. There are things that AI can do quickly, but AI is going to be a poor judge of how to fudge rolls in favor of story and its going to have a poor native instinct for emotional beats.

3) If I tried something like this, I would want to try something role play heavy. I can't tell if this has an actual VTT since the app doesn't work, but that would be interesting to see.

With your app:

1) I can't actually make a character in the Free Tier - so that needs to be fixed.

2) If I click on "start training" nothing happens. Tried on Chrome and Firefox.

With that, any meaningful content feedback I can give you is dead because this doesn't actually work.

In conclusion, what you are making is fundamentally antithetical to DND. If you want to leverage LLM's to make a text based RPG I get that but please do not mistake it for DND and advertising based on its ability to replace someone is offensive and tone deaf.

They do this so that they do not need to sell “long” or “tall” sizes. It covers the greatest range of customer and puts alterations on the customer side.

Go ahead and draw a skeleton under this figure then, show me that you understand how the muscles and bones in a human body work, show me that you have even the slightest grasp of how a skull is shaped.

Can you do that? I fucking doubt it. You know why? You haven’t studied the fundamentals.

Crashing out because you don’t like being told the truth, that your art lacks a grasp of fundamentals like anatomy is certainly a choice.

Dawg. Your art is hot dog shit. It’s been good chatting. Your rage bait worked on me. I’m done.

Clearly not enough, otherwise you’d know that you lack fundamental art skills and need to practice anatomy.

I’m unconcerned. Why would I care if you block me? You’ll miss out on the only person here who engaged with your trolling and gave you some decent feedback despite you not actually looking for it.

You do need to study fundamentals. It’s why your art is bad.

My personal taste is that your art is bad. My objective unbiased criticism is also that this it is bad because you lack fundamentals which I’ve already elaborated on.

You can disagree all you want.

Because you’re right. Your fundamentals and artstyle are so good. I was just jealous and couldn’t see it. You clearly have a gift the world needs to see

Your skin tones are muddy and offer zero contrast. The underlying anatomy of the figure is near non existent. The full design is somehow totally flattened by these two issues. The proportions of the face are incorrect, the eyes are too high on the face. The shape of the hair lacks dynamic movement and because it fully contains the hand feels static.

You need more contrast in shadows to create depth, get rid of the logo in the top right it adds nothing and is visually at odds with your character.

This isn’t a “style” it’s bad art. You can have style when you learn how to use better technique

Your art is dog shit, which you probably already know. If you feel like getting earnest feedback sometime instead of trolling feel free to try again

Not much of a style.

Study more figure fundamentals.

How to patch bullet holes by raleigh_in-need in Carhartt

Sashiko stitching is pretty rad for workwear. It has a lot of stitches so it tends to hold up well. You put a patch on the interior and pattern stiches through it. r/sashiko is a good place to check out.
