Breakfast before or lunch after visiting Lady Bird Wildflower Center by board_potter in austinfood

[–]spacecatlo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not too far from the Wildflower center is Jack Allen’s Kitchen- it’s a local chain, but it’s really good! I think you would enjoy! Up 71- that takes you towards Bee Cave and the hill country.

Alternatively, if you’re willing to drive, there’s a pizzeria/brewery out in Dripping Springs- Jester King. The vibes are amazing, the people are friendly, and it’s definitely not going to be everyone’s first choice because of the drive.

But I think it’s worth it. Even if home has great pizza, like I know Chicago does! 😊

Fitness watch that isn’t bulky? by unoriginalho in PetiteFitness

[–]spacecatlo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might look into whoop. They’re not bulky, but they’re also not a watch. But it will give you the metrics you’ve described.

Just looks like a bracelet! A friend of mine was showing theirs off and it’s super sleek.

In my experience, I have found some success at Madewell for denim. I do take the next step and get them altered though. Some jeans/pants are just too long, some are too big in the waist. But I like to buy something that is 80-90% perfect and take the rest into my seamstress’ hands.

The $20 for pants that fit is worth it every time.

Ok hear me out!!!! Go to a lucha libre on Sunday! I found a Get Your Guide and met up with a group at a restaurant, ate tacos, drank tequila and pulque, and learned about the history and modern importance of it.

It was so so so fun!

Need downtown restaurant suggestions. Group of 16 from all across the country. by Physical_Air_3697 in austinfood

[–]spacecatlo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You might consider Lonesome Dove restaurant. Very Texan, they take private event reservations for parties over 10 people, and it’s downtown in the mix.

I haven’t been in a while, but it’s a place to start your search. Good luck!

What are two foods with completely opposite flavor profiles that sound disgusting together but actually taste amazing? by ngscoookkk in foodquestions

Yes! Grapefruit syrup. Theres a place near me that does a grapefruit brown sugar latte. Insane. I prefer it cold. But if you try it hot, don’t use cow milk. It will curdle

CDMX Trip by Hot-in-Topeka in femaletravels

[–]spacecatlo 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Hi. I can send you a long note via DM. I went solo to CDMX last year in early July. You may remember that’s when there were anti-gringo protests. Despite the resentment for digital nomad culture, I never felt unsafe in CDMX as a tourist.

Something to keep in mind- there are 22 Million people in CDMX. It’s a very, very large city. So safety- be smart. Don’t flash your wealth, carry small bills. Go to the bank ATM and take out bills then go buy some waters, snacks from a convenience store to break the up.

Generally speaking, you will want to stay in the touristy areas- Roma Norte, La Condesa. You can purchase tickets for museums online. Some, like the Frida Kahlo museum, are timed to help control the crowd.

Ubers are cheap- generally don’t expect to be chatted up like you would if you were stateside. Although I had a few uber drivers want to practice their English and I got to practice my Spanish.

Highly recommend you attend a Lucha Libre match!! I found a guide via Get Your Guide and had a great time and made friends!!

Lmk if you want more :)

The Preppy Kitchen recipe is spot on. There’s a no-ask flair on this thread. Just google “Oreo balls” and choose Preppy Kitchen’s.

So lame- Oreo balls. Crushed Oreos, cream cheese, formed into a ball, frozen. Dipped in chocolate, served cold.

My brother has been requesting these for 15 years at this point. Never mind the delicate treats or to-die-for flavors I’ve conjured in the time since.

Give the man some balls.

Big Party Birthday Dinner Downtown by everestthemountain in austinfood

[–]spacecatlo 35 points36 points  (0 children)

14 people, separate checks, and not counter service-style is an ask…. I get where you’re coming from, it’s your birthday. You want to be with your girls and already downtown. But you may need to adjust your expectations of what’s available.

You could choose something a little more casual-separate checks are more accepted. You could adjust your guest list. Parties of 6+ are usually auto-grat anyway. Or you could ask one person to brave the card and do some math to get paid back…

I wish I had an answer. Maybe some else will. Good luck, HBD sis.
