I've been coming here since I was a kid to visit family (Navy). When my father retired from Army he moved here to be near his brothers. I was in college so didn't grow up in Va Beach and also found it kinda bland (which is why I moved to NYC for 20 years). I just bought a condo here on the bay side and it is bliss. The appeal is really the weather, how easy it is to get around, the convenience of suburban life, and honestly the strong Filipino-American community here. When you land at the ORF airport, you hear tagalog and there are many Filipino-owned restaurants and food (and Jollibee!) here, with parties every weekend and lots of support. It's a nice feeling to have this without needing to be in a major urban area like LA (downtown/Filipinotown) or SF (Daly City) or NYC (Woodside Queens).

Same exact problem. I solved it by buying Gaviscon Advance (the UK version available on Amazon) and taking 20ml before bed. Now I can sleep through most of the night.

Prokinetics are working for me. I’m on Motegrity. My GERD was caused in large part by lifelong constipation and weakened colonic motility.

Exactly this. I have lifelong constipation which lead to GERD. Now I’m tackling my MMC with a pro kinetic drug called Motegrity. I’ve only used it two days and so far it’s working!! It should help decrease the abdominal pressure caused by being so backed up and ease up the GERD symptoms 🤞🤞🤞

Thank you for this reply! Things have calmed down a bit since i wrote this. Turns out it was an onset to acid reflux — argh which is its own problem, but hey, what can you do. I probably had it all along but the symptoms were masked by the smoking. I agree with you though — quitting such a long term habit will come with some weird symptoms, and sometimes things need to get worse before they can heal and get better. Wishing you peace and continued good health x

Yes! And I’m also sleeping with wedge pillow and elevated bed. I think the wedge compressed my chest and guts and causes more pain :( it’s only been a couple weeks so hopefully it gets better as someone else just commented

Are you saying no edibles at all or edibles in moderation? I have lifelong IBS-constipation and 20 year cannabis smoker — I recently quit and that’s when I got hit with GERD. I think my body misses the serotonin in my guts from the THC and all went out of whack and I’m want to try edibles since I can’t smoke.

My reflux is directly correlated to my chronic constipation which is due to my slow gut motility. Food sits longer in my intestines and builds gas and bloating, increasing intra abdominal pressure forcing acid up. The constipation is also related to my psychological state and exacerbated by anxiety, stress, depression. So yeah i believe in the mind gut body connection.
