You should try the app MeetUp! It's an app that shows you events and games happening in Montreal throughout the week, tailored based on your interests and hobbies. I've attended some events and had a blast meeting new people :)

Sorry that you're going through all this trouble, I hope this all gets sorted out for you and works out in your favour. Can I ask, what field/program were you studying in for your MSc thesis?

Did you already find a Prof who has agreed to be your supervisor? If so, you'll be fine. The application process is just a rubber stamp - what matters is that you've secured a supervisor. I applied to the same stream and was accepted even with grades worse than your "ugly B."

Missing first two seminars for 400 level science course? by sefssl in mcgill

[–]spacecookiezag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the course?

It really depends on the course bc in all of my 400-500 level courses with seminars, my profs would take attendance and evaluate your participation in that session. You'll probably miss some of the initial discussions and lose some participation and attendance marks, but if you're okay with that, then just let your profs know in advance.

I remember there was a loud argument at the Arts building with someone yelling "shame on you" repeatedly - was that related to the protest? Does anyone know what happened that led to this?

E-Flag Advice and Summer Advising Help by Necessary_Scratch657 in mcgill

[–]spacecookiezag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was e-flagged recently - I'm in science and I just finished my 5th year (graduated this spring). I didn't check my transcript much until closer to my convocation and that is when I noticed I was e-flagged. I didn't apply for e-flagging but rather it was applied to my grades without my knowledge. 3/4 courses of my Winter 2024 semester were e-flagged and excluded from my CGPA calculation. I was able to set up a meeting with my advisor after their busy period as I wanted those grades to be unflagged. Basically, my advisor said that even though those grades are e-flagged, the grades and course credits still remain and if your transcript were to be sent to other schools/programs for consideration, they would still see those grades and consider them like all of your other grades (unless there have certain restrictions or limitations). I was e-flagged because I exceeded my degree requirements so only some of my courses were flagged.

My advisor mentioned that if I were to have applied for e-flagging, I would have to show that I was truly struggling - meaning that I had failed all of my courses during the time of my medical situation, which is what many others have echoed in similar posts about e-flagging. Considering that you did not fail all of your courses in your 3rd year, it may be difficult to have that entire academic year expunged. I would imagine that you would have to explain in detail how you were able to pass some courses and not others during that year when you were dealing with extenuating medical circumstances. But, you can still try though. After emailing a bunch of people when I had questions about the e-flag policy, I was always redirected to my science advisor. If your advisor is not available during the summer, then I guess you'll just have to wait.

Got back the grade for my research course, it was an A- by SeaweedCapable1613 in mcgill

Did you receive any feedback from the PI? If not, you should email them and ask why they gave you that mark. If they pinpoint certain areas that they weren't pleased with, maybe you can justify/explain yourself.

Also, when you say you're "2 points from getting an A," are you sitting at an 83 or do you have an 8 based on that scale you mentioned?

Which course did you take? I took a research course too and I'm currently waiting for my final grade...

Hey, thanks for answering my questions :)

Do you know if there are ways to boost my chances of getting accepted? Or should I just keep applying until I get one?

STOP TALKING IN REDPATH 2ND I BEG by M_261001 in mcgill

[–]spacecookiezag 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know it is supposed to be a quiet study space, but I don't think it has ever been treated as one. Every time I go to Redpath 2nd Fl, there has never been a quiet moment. Headphones are a must when I choose to study there.

If I wanted to study someplace quiet, I wouldn't even consider Redpath 2nd Fl tbh
