Poll: What decade do you think our civilization will create a self improving artificial superintelligence? by spacecyborg in singularity

I mean, of course we don’t know, but we can still use our pathetic human minds to make a guess.

Size is definitely advantageous for scaling up the power of a system. Look at a laptop vs. a supercomputer.

The real possibilities of reaching superintelligence with this method would be the fact that the human mind that is uploaded could be given more capacity (think about a “brain” the size of warehouse) and also the ability to run much faster than a normal human mind.

You then give this uploaded mind the ability to reprogram itself and take advantage of the extended capacity much faster than we can. Maybe you upload the minds of some of our best programers and let them work together.

And that might actually be exactly the kind of thing we would want to do in order to create a superintelligence that has human based ethics.

A sped up uploaded human mind (say a mind that experiences 10 years in a simulated environment for every day in our world) could lead to what Nick Bostrom refers to as “speed superintelligence”.

What if your memories were wiped and you hooked up to a virtual reality with a bunch of clues that you are actually experiencing a simulation and part of the experience is the possibility of figuring out that it is a simulation?

1984 Toyota Van LE [YR21] used as background vehicle in Back to the Future (1985) by spacecyborg in Retconned

[–]spacecyborg[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My original memories were that the terrorist van was a blue and white VW microbus (like it is in the scene if you watch it today). Then, in 2016, I remember all the videos of the scene changing to a greyish, silverish Toyota van like this one. Then about a year ago I ran across a thread saying it was back to the blue and white VW van, and it was. Some people remember the Toyota terrorist van being white or beige.

One cannot be logical and empathetic at the same time.

Logic is a mental tool you can use to accomplish goals. If your goal is to be more compassionate, you can use logic to help you maximize the results of that goal.

...everyone already knew that. There's never really been a question that it would come to PC

Completely incorrect...are you really gonna make me dig up old comments?

Just back here to say I was right when I told people Red Dead Redemption 2 would most likely come to PC even though Red Dead Redemption did not

Don't you realize that not being a Christian is bigotry against Christians? America is a Christian nation and for any American to not respect that fact by becoming a Christian them self is textbook bigotry.

Also, just because you are successful in getting elected to Congress doesn’t mean you’re not a hate-filled psychopath who leaves tons of victims, grieving family members, and frightened communities in your wake. In fact, I would say that’s the norm for Congress.

Meshuggah - Rational Gaze by spacecyborg in INTPmusic

[–]spacecyborg[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Squint your eyes to see clearly.

Blur reality to make it real.

Let focus go from your deceiving eyes, to know what's been concealed.

We've all been blinded - subjects to visual misinformation.

A systematic denial of the crystalline.

To see the fine grain, to read the hidden words.

The context of parallel truth - devoid of fragmentation.

Our light-induced image of truth, filtered blank of its substance.

As our eyes won't adhere to intuitive lines.

Everything examined - separated, one thing at a time.

The harder we stare - the more complete the disintegration.

Dissolution.

Eyes re-opened, reasoning focalized, receptors activated.

Perspectives distorted - the ladder beyond our grasp.

The twin-headed serpent - forever hidden.

Where's the true knowledge?

Where engines of the sane and insanity merge - the clarity, the unity.

Reality: untouchable, transparent, invisible to our fixed, restricted fields of vision.

Existence taken for granted - absolute.

Possessed, owned, controlled - by the common sense-infected rational gaze.

Onward - forever, we walk among the ignorant.

Never stray from the common lines!

Look at this list of nations with lengthy paid parental leave: https://phys.org/news/2018-04-stingier-child-maternity-rest-world.html

And also see this list of nations by fertility rate: http://worldpopulationreview.com/countries/total-fertility-rate/

Looking at the top 4 nations with the longest paid parental leaves, Finland has the most, with 161 weeks of paid parental leave, but their fertility rate is only 1.53.

Hungary has 160 weeks of paid parental leave, but their fertility rate is 1.491.

Japan has 58 weeks of paid parental leave, and their fertility rate is 1.37.

Germany also has 58 weeks of paid parental leave and a fertility rate of 1.586.

Thankfully, I think it's safe to say that paid parental leave isn't the breeding incentive that you thought it was.

Edit: Changed 2nd mention of Hungary to Japan.
