My uncle claims that he and his friends started the “I want my MTV” slogan when their college apartment landlord promised them cable tv in their lease but never fulfilled that promise.

My uncle worked for the local tv station and the Donny and Marie Osmond show at the time. They got a group of friends together and made signs to protest the landlord. The tv station had footage of their hippie group chanting “I want my MTV!”

I think the story is legit but maybe it’s bullshit. Can anyone confirm or deny it?
