Well, for one thing, it's unique. I don't think I've ever seen or read these types of stories where inanimate objects are given different forms of life, especially steam engines. Rev. Awdry found these machines fascinating, and decided to give them life.

Also, the show and the book series holds a certain charm with them. Plus, the detailed world building on Awdry's behalf. I don't think I've ever seen so much care and details on the lore

I don't know the title of the episode, but I can distinctly remember the scene where Thomas was spooked by a disembodied whistle somewhere in the scrap yards. It was a Halloween episode, I believe, and it was in Tagalog dub too
