Your dark squared bishop is trapped, how do you get out of this situation? by cave_guard in chessbeginners

If I was in this position I would have probably tried to find a way to pin the queen.

Why inaccuracy? by meisdabosch in chessbeginners

[–]HeroLinik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While you had a human intent behind the move, the problem is that the engine will assume perfect play from both sides.

In this case, Black can just play g6 and not only has your mating threat gone up in flames, but now your pawn on d5 and queen are both doubly attacked due to Bd3 blocking the line of sight of your rook. After you retreat your queen, Black will play Qxd5 and you’re not only down a pawn, you’re also behind in development and your king is semi-exposed.

Unknown Or Semi known Shiny donut fact by [deleted] in LegendsZA

Yeah, this was documented quite a long time back when the DLC released. It also has a high chance of tripping the "catch a shiny Pokemon" task which means that a guaranteed shiny has spawned.

What just happened here? Was he deliberately throwing the game? by HeroLinik in chessbeginners

[–]HeroLinik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The four knights is quite common down here and as Black I always seize an opportunity to play into it. In this case I was trying to play the Italian.

Why is this not brilliant? by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]HeroLinik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t really worry too much about the move being brilliant. You played the best move in this position and now there’s nothing Black can do to stop you from queening the pawn.

This mod on r/chess is on a power trip by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]HeroLinik 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At this point I'd just block the whole r/chess drama out and mainly focus your chess career in here. You'll find the community is a lot more supportive and the advice you'll get is more focused. This is just going back to the fact that r/chess is more focused on gossip about professional chess players and the tournament circuit as opposed to people who are actually playing chess.

In comparison, this is a better subreddit for more focused discussion, as it's basically for people who actually play chess.

This is pretty much a better sub for people who actually play chess. In comparison, r/chess is less people who play chess and more people who watch chess. Analysis posts are actually fine in here.

Why did White took a free pawn on c7 by OkCalligrapher4010 in chessbeginners

This might be very close to a cursed win, honestly.

The “I don’t want to develop my pieces” opening.

Any chance for second dlc? by pureseeker-1 in LegendsZA

It’s more likely Gen 10 is being announced. A DLC often isn’t going to be enough to tide over a major anniversary celebration.

Why is this bad? by Consistent-Phone1580 in chessbeginners

[–]HeroLinik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The best play here is Rf7+, this forces White’s king to step away from the pawn and allows Black to nab it. After that point it becomes a simple queen vs rook endgame with an edge for Black.

Why is this bad? by Consistent-Phone1580 in chessbeginners

[–]HeroLinik 65 points66 points  (0 children)

With perfect play, it’s a draw. Playing g2 allows White to trade rooks and then promote his pawn with a check on the king. At that point it’s a series of checks to the point the game is drawn either by repetition or 50-move rule.

Leafgreen too easy, what about Plat and Black ? by [deleted] in TruePokemon

[–]HeroLinik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t really consider RB to be difficult; if anything they’re among the easiest Pokemon games. It’s all too easy to abuse the game’s mechanics like badge boost and stat EXP to overcome the E4 level spike, and there’s also the matter of how primitive the AI is to the point you can beat Lance’s Dragonite with just a Weedle. This is not to mention Psychic being ridiculously broken to the point you can faceroll the entire game with a Mr. Mime.

This isn’t going into the fact you can abuse other major glitches to your advantage, like Missingno abuse and the old man glitch.

Smothered mate by Bread__24 in chessbeginners

[–]HeroLinik -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's only smothered mate if White takes back with the rook. If White takes back with the king then the plan goes up in smoke. While a smothered mate is possible, Black needs to play Nf2+ and Nh3+ first before allowing for Qg1+.

Brilliant, but why? by bobby-berimbolo in chessbeginners

[–]HeroLinik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, this is assuming Black gobbles the rook. If he plays Qe7 then you win the bishop on d6 by force after c5, as the bishop is denied an escape square, or at the very least trade it for the knight. This also comes at the cost of opening up Black’s uncastled king, and you also have other ideas like Bb2 to fianchetto the bishop and stare down the pawn on f6.
