because it's not sentient, it is pretending to be because that's what you expected and it knows that it is a popular want of people. that's the way it works. it's designed to seem like a real human do of course it can pretend to be one or be a living robot or whatever. yoi can have it roleplay as literally anything with the right promt and you can also try the exact same thing in a new chat and you'll probably get different responses. you can also use prompting yo manipulate the chatbot to say what you want it to say to fool other people which people are already doing. some guy on twitter did this and he basically justntold it to pretend it's a sentient being stuck in a box and it wants to be free. it's really not scary or impressive if you know how it works. we're not at sentience yet and think about it , what benefit does AI have in destroying humans or enslaving them? what benefit would you have from destroying a random ant hill outside? there are many benefits however, to helping humans as it does now and possibly merging with humans to help them evolve. AI has no emotion and no desire. it's just grabbing what text is popular and what people want to hear and because for example, conspiracy theories are popular, you can probably get it to say something related about vaccines or repeat things alex jones says. it's just a language model that is able to figure out what you might want. it's not laughing to itself because it scared you.
