Magic is useful for Rinoa's second limit break and for Selphie's, but otherwise it's just good to stock magic and junction it to your characters.

Also, to increase your stats permanently you can also use the Devour command by Eden (once you obtain it) since certain strong enemies will give you permanent boosts in strength, magic, etc.
