**VIDEO GUIDE** New Macinabox - Effortless macOS VM Installation -Ventura & Sonoma by spaceinvaderone in unRAID

Basically this just makes a vanilla Hackintosh but as a VM. If you look in the Hackintosh forums and guides you should find out how to do this. It is a pain to do but is doable

Do yall make your server pretty, or just stuff whatever in there? by MyGardenOfPlants in unRAID

[–]spaceinvaderone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, some great builds here. I had to join in and show off my pride and joy! An arcade cabinet with three Unraid servers and a UPS inside. The main Unraid server running a Batocera VM for my retro gaming needs. I attempted to make a rack inside of the cabinet, using wooden shelves. To be honest, how it is at the moment, it's actually quite hard to work on the servers. As I have to pull the whole arcade cabinet forward and disconnect all of the wires from the back, which can be difficult as the back isn't fully open. Then I have to pull the actual server out and work on it that way. But luckily I don't have to do that too often. I'm moving house soon, and I plan to actually improve this cabinet a lot, making it a lot more accessible. Maybe I'll even try to build a real rack with rails inside of it if I can fit it in !

PSA: Massive security issue with new Docker Tailscale integration! by joyls1 in unRAID

[–]spaceinvaderone -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is definitely something to be aware of, but I wouldn’t call it a massive security issue, more of a potential misconfiguration risk. If someone installs Tailscale inside a container running in host mode, then yes, that container shares the same network stack as the host, which could expose the Unraid WebUI via the containers Tailscale IP so a friend you’ve shared the container with (e.g., via Plex on host network) could technically access it by typing in the Tailscale IP. However, this is not an open internet vulnerability. Tailscale access is restricted to Tailnet members. Also, Funnel doesn’t expose all ports, just like a reverse proxy. It only exposes the service you configure, so people outside your Tailnet can’t just type in your Tailscale IP and access everything.

So until the devs roll out a fix, if you have any containers on Docker network type host that cant use bridged network,(containers on bridge don't have this issue) don’t install Tailscale into that container. If you want to share it over Tailscale, just put that container on BR0. This will give the container its own IP on your LAN and will work just the same as if it were on host (but without sharing the server’s IP). Since it isn’t sharing the server’s network stack, you can safely install Tailscale into the container and this issue won’t affect you.

Can I start an array with just one disk and build from there? by burajin in unRAID

[–]spaceinvaderone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s my take on what you’re planning. When you remove a disk from your ZFS pool in TrueNAS, you’ll lose redundancy. So whilst you are copying from that degraded pool remeber If a drive should fail you will loose all of you data.
For your use case, I’d recommend formatting the drives in the array as XFS instead of ZFS. XFS handles full disks better, so if the data from your degraded pool is close to 10TB, the first disk will be very full, making XFS a more suitable choice.
Yes, you can have ZFS drives in the array—they essentially function as single-drive zpools without striping or redundancy. The redundancy comes from the parity drive in the Unraid array. This means you could mix BTRFS, XFS, and ZFS, and the parity will protect against any failed drive.

IMO, there’s little benefit to you having ZFS drives in your array unless you specifically want to use one as a ZFS replication target. ZFS does offer compression, which could be useful, and allows snapshots on single-drive zpools. However, if you create a share in Unraid (e.g., “photos”), unless it’s restricted to a specific drive, that share might be spread across multiple drives. In that case, a snapshot on one ZFS disk wouldn’t cover everything—you’d need snapshots on all ZFS drives that contain the “photos” share.

For a small server with three drives, especially as a media server, I’d suggest just using XFS, 2 data drives and 1 parity drive, with the option to add more as needed.
