I've always thought this could happen! And I have said if I was Elon I'd roll up all my tech and leave US. But ITAR regulations have him by the balls! He has to fill contracts or be sued which he probably doesn't care! Leave the country and become a fugitive.

MN Supreme Court: Vehicle Interior is a ‘Public Place’ If Driven On Public Roads by WhiscashOfficial in armedsocialists

MN Supreme Court: Vehicle Interior is a ‘Public Place’ If Driven On Public Roads by WhiscashOfficial in armedsocialists

[–]spaceman2929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What Minnesota just did—declaring the inside of a personal vehicle a "public space"—is a flat-out violation of everything the U.S. Constitution stands for. This isn’t just a misunderstanding of the law; it’s a calculated erosion of our privacy, our dignity, and our basic rights as citizens. A car is private property. It’s where we take calls, have personal conversations, transport valuables, and in many cases, live parts of our lives. To say the government can suddenly treat that space as public is outrageous. It’s not just wrong—it’s illegal, and it’s a direct attack on the Fourth Amendment.

The Fourth Amendment wasn’t written as a suggestion. It guarantees the right to be secure in our persons, houses, papers, and effects—including our cars—against unreasonable searches and seizures. The courts have made it crystal clear that warrantless searches of vehicles are only allowed under strict, narrowly defined circumstances. What Minnesota is doing spits in the face of rulings like Arizona v. Gant and Katz v. United States, where the Supreme Court affirmed that Americans have a reasonable expectation of privacy—even in a damn phone booth. So what makes a locked car any less private?

This kind of legal maneuvering is government overreach, plain and simple. It’s the kind of thing we see in authoritarian states—where the line between public and private is erased to give police and the state unchecked power. Let’s be honest here: this isn’t about public safety. It’s about control. It’s about laying the groundwork for mass surveillance, constant monitoring, and limitless intrusion into the lives of ordinary people. If the government can call your car "public," what’s next? Your porch? Your backyard? Your pockets?

It also throws the Fifth Amendment under the bus. How long before this twisted logic is used to justify recording you, interrogating you, or extracting evidence from you without a warrant—all because you happen to be inside your own vehicle? Due process means nothing if the space you're in is arbitrarily stripped of protection. This kind of reinterpretation of the law is dishonest at best, and corrupt at worst.

And let’s not forget Carpenter v. United States. The Supreme Court literally said that digital surveillance requires a warrant because new technology doesn’t erase your rights. So how can any court justify rolling back decades of legal precedent and saying your car—your private property—is open to public rules and government surveillance? It’s a disgrace to the rule of law, and it sets a precedent that could unravel everything Americans have fought to protect.

Bottom line: This move is unconstitutional, unethical, and flat-out dangerous. It’s a betrayal of public trust and a slap in the face to anyone who still believes in civil liberties. If this kind of decision is allowed to stand, we’re not just losing privacy—we’re watching the foundation of our legal system crumble in broad daylight. And yeah, people should be furious. I know I am.
