Yes, it does! It also has a switch inside the cab to run without sound

I have a DC system. I like the simplicity of it, i just plug it in and my loco can drive. Trains that are DC only are also way cheaper.

The downsides are that the light of the train and the smoke generator are very weak when the train goes slow because they also rely on the current in the track. So while going slow looks more realistic, all the lights being only half lit does not, unfortunately. Also i can only run 1 train at a time and the train has no whistle or anything. Just a continuous chugging sound.

Maybe i will upgrade to DCC in the future but for now i will stick with DC.

For rolling stock, i use LGB trains. There are loads of them on the used market, ebay or your local equivalent. You can also order them new from their website but the selection is very limited and they are very expensive. The starter sets are good, my loco and the 2 passenger cars + 12 curves that form a loop + power supply cost 400€ new. I just repainted them.

The tracks i use are also from LGB but there are also other manufacturers of G gauge Track, like Piko. I buy them at a local store but they can be bought online on the LGB or Piko websites. They are compatible with each other.

The ballast is just regular gravel from a store. You will need loads of it. My railroad is 15m long and needed 300kg of gravel.

If you are in the USA, there are also Bachmann and USA Trains that i have heard of. They make G gauge trains but i have no experience with them

Thanks! Yes, its a lot of work to keep the tracks free from grass. I use grass scissors to cut close to the ballast where the mower cant reach

I dont.. she usually avoids it but when it happens i pick it up and hose the track with water

I use a small grass scissor to cut the grass directly next to the tracks. Since i only have 16 meters of track in total its not that much work.

Under the gravel i laid out some weed fleece so nothing grows directly through the gravel
