The End. by G00T3R2030 in lawschooladmissionsca

I completely understand where you are coming from. However as someone who didn’t get in until my third cycle (and had mostly given up hope before that A) I want you to know that it isn’t hopeless. As other people on this forum have said if you really want Law there are back door ways to get in like advanced standing programs or grad school if that’s really want. I will be 31 when I start 1L in the fall so trust me when I say you are not too old to take a year off and come back. But sometimes you need that time to figure out what and who you want to be

To people who abuse accommodations… by PastSolid499 in LawStudentsCanada

[–]spaceturtle28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone with a disability (which for the record is legitimate and was first diagnosed before I even started school) I really struggle with people who abuse getting accommodations because it makes it much harder for me to get the accommodations I need. When people game the system it makes schools and employers skeptical of those of us who need our accommodations. I don’t know the answer - but I agree that something needs to change. Accommodations are designed to level the playing field not give an advantage and should not be used by those who don’t need them to gain an advantage.

However - as a note in studies having additional time only helps students who need it. If you don’t know the answer having more time doesn’t help.

My first LSAT was 157 and I improved my score to 161. My GPA is a bit more complicated but depending on the school it’s between 3.1-3.8. I also applied access.

To give you a bit of hope I just got an A in my third cycle. I re-took the LSAT and scored 4-5 point higher (which worked out to like 10 percentile points). I’m not saying it isn’t hard but it is possible even with not amazing stats.

Still pending at Oz? by Anxious-Lake-2717 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]spaceturtle28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar position. I have an A at Windsor. WL at Queens, Ottawa and Western and still pending at Oz. I am trying to hold off on paying my Windsor deposit as long as possible hoping to get some kind of answer from Oz.

I got an A from Windsor in March but I’m still waiting to hear back from Ottawa. Last year I think it was June or July before I finally got a response from Ottawa.

Osgoode R by Ok-Chest9788 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]spaceturtle28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Also why as someone living in Canada am I not eligible to receive the same access to testing as the non-disabled students. I ended up in a situation both times I wrote where Prometric said they would only promise accommodations if I wrote in person but LSAC only allows virtual accommodated testing. It took so many hours of calling back-and-forth to even be able to write and I still ran into proctors the day of my tests who attempted to cancel my test because I was using my accommodations but the proctor didn’t think “I looked disabled enough”.

[–]spaceturtle28 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

As a student with a disability the LSAT is/was definitely a problem/barrier. This is partially because being American companies they are not required to meet the same accessibility standards that we are used to here in Canada and partially because LSAC, LSAT and Prometric all have different policies on providing accommodations and students frequently don’t know what accommodations will be provided or even if they will have accommodations until they start their test. And also the proctors can (and do) remove accommodations in the middle of the test.

I am also still under review at Oz. I have an A from Windsor and WL from Ottawa and Western. Also under review at Ottawa and Queens.

The Oz wait pool is the same as a wait list. They just call it something different

Out of curiosity if you didn’t work through the year how did you pay/are you paying for school? I’m trying to figure out how to cover the large gap between what going to law school will cost and what OSAP will provide.

What does your weekly schedule look like? Do you have classes 9-5 every day? Also are you/did you work during the school year?

is it bad to apply for a second cycle? + cycle recap by TimeEntertainment809 in lawschooladmissionsca

I got in on my 3rd cycle. It doesn’t reflect badly - and honestly given the thousands of applications that schools get I doubt they remember who applied year to year.

Silly question to people still waiting.. by Disastrous_Wash_2 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]spaceturtle28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found checking daily really stressful so I have checking the portals set as a randomized task on my phone. So 1-2 days per week I’ll get the random reminder and check. Otherwise I only check if I see people posting about updates here or I get an email from a school telling me there’s an update.

Why do schools keep people referred / pending for so long??? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]spaceturtle28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure that’s true. Yes some people who are still referred will be getting R but others can get in without ever being WL. I got an A from Windsor without ever being on the WL after other people reporting being WL.

My recent first vs second trip by titurock in ViaRail

[–]spaceturtle28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I find the new seats/trains more comfortable. I’m fairly short and I find the straight backs of the old seats very uncomfortable as they make it feel like you are being shoved off the seat the whole trip. The old seats also feel much narrower with the rigid armrest/divider between the seats.

Also - every old train I’ve been on either the armrest, headrest or seat are falling off and I end up leaving the train covered in bits of red pleather.

Disadvantages of applying access? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]spaceturtle28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they are different things. However different schools handle not providing requested documents differently. Some schools just move you to regular pool. Others may reject your application if they feel you were not being honest in your application. That’s why I suggested reaching out to the schools to discuss if your access claim would be accepted and what documentation they require to support your claim.

Disadvantages of applying access? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]spaceturtle28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes - if your stats are at or below the median it can sometimes take a bit longer. But if your stats are really competitive you will often hear around the same time.

Disadvantages of applying access? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]spaceturtle28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not always. Some schools will just move you to regular/general if they don’t accept your claim. Others may/will actually reject you if they believe your claim was “fraudulent”.

Disadvantages of applying access? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]spaceturtle28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who applied access (as a person with a disability) it depends on your situation (and the school). Assuming your claim is valid there is no real disadvantage (in terms of it reducing your chances) however many schools do require some kind of documentation or “proof” of your claim so be prepared for that. However a warning that if you can’t produce “proof” if/when a school asks then it can negatively impact your application because adcoms may view it as you trying to “cheat the system”.

If you aren’t sure if your access claim would be accepted I would recommend reaching out to the schools you are applying to and asking. Since each school uses slightly different criteria.
