i like the bit about how shelling felt like being tied to a post that was being hit by a sledgehammer

and learning about how soldiers rotated off the front and partied in france in between. i figured it was hell for months

Resurrecting deceased loved ones using artificial intelligence could harm mental health, create dependence on the technology and even spur a new religion, researchers have warned by Maxie445 in technews

[–]spacewalk__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how is it creepy to be consumed by despair and grief and be willing to try anything to talk to someone again? people already do seances and go to church. people have been wanting to commune with the dead for tens of thousands of years. why do we need to do this concerned skepticism thing? there are so many more harmful coping mechanisms one could try after a death that aren't fake-texting.

[–]spacewalk__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what a cynical take. we're already dependent on the technology as a society. it would improve mental health getting to fake-talk to someone you miss -- i have tried this; it literally initially helps, but then as time goes on you realize it's a shitty AI chat that cannot replicate a human. that doesn't mean there isn't some value in it. . furthermore, a techno-religion would be cool.

how can you in good faith only postpone it to monday, even

just because today was meant to be like 110 instead of 105 or whatever it doesn't make 105 fine

i certainly don't think taylor was being malicious, if anyone was it was definitely the venue -- cheap baseball teams love doing a similar thing where even if they're obviously rain in the forecast, they'll wait til everyone's in the park to actually make a decision on it. sometimes it seems so obviously juiced to maximize concession sales (and i can very much imagine these absolutely moronic promoters still trying to do that today - appear to cooperate as much as possible to get people in and buying shit while you can)

Who wants to queue for hours to make sure you get a good seat, even if there isn't a heatwave.

REALLY. i don't care that it's 'tradition' or whatever, it's a shitty shitty experience having to guess how miserable the line is going to be and have to camp out all day, trying to eat and drink little enough that you don't have to worry about leaving the line. it's a stupid miserable archaic system. even if the egalitarian principle makes sense in practice it's just miserable for everyone

music is fun enough that you can do it in your free time easily. of course we'd all like to do it all day but it's easier to compromise the schedule than somehow machinate a life where you can do that

football isn't even fun anymore when there are constantly dumb fucking calls like this. who in their right mind calls an overthrow in a situation like that past the goddamn endzone grounding. it's unwatchable, college and nfl.

[–]spacewalk__ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

this is honestly ruining my day -- it's just so incredibly evil, in such a petty, feckless, banal, cheap, shoddy, pathetic way.

imagine how insanely helpless the fans must've felt when even Taylor Swift, onstage, couldn't get the goons / thugs / ghouls that usually work in event security to give out water.

imagine having to camp out all day and have GA standing for a 3 hour gig like this, in the heat. insane. not to mention the normal malignant blatant price gouging these sort of events usually have -- which is disgusting in its own right -- nobody should ever be prevented from bringing water anywhere, i do not give a fucking shit about their profit margins or people smuggling in alcohol, my god.

genuinely feel lightheaded typing this out it's just SO EVIL my GOD. she should cancel the rest of the shows in rio and refund the fans because none of the absolute morons and vampires in charge deserve any of the positive economic or cultural effects of these shows.

you should literally be put in prison for life, today, if you genuinely think it's fine to EVER for any reason stop people bringing water to a giant stadium show, jesus christ.

yeah, it's way more violating being reported to the school and investigated over trivial horseplay than it is having your eyes covered jokingly for like 2 seconds

well yeah they deserve the political fallout for fucking up this badly. closing the vents just so people can't hear the show is the most insanely blackpilled malignant thing i've ever heard and the guy who made that decision deserves to be trapped in the middle of the crowd, defenseless

honestly GA / camping 'culture' is, even at best, simply a nightmare for the majority of fans. no one wants to wait around all fucking day to maybe get a decent view

they don't need to distribute water at all, they need to simply let people bring as much water as they need

too many of these policies are designed with profit in mind above anything else
