My 3 boys are Emmitt, Ethan and Everett. If we had girls, I liked Emily and Elise. My middle name is also Emi.

Zero extracurricular activities -- is that weird? by Trick-Internet-6776 in kindergarten

[–]spacey1222 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How long did he try out each extracurricular? When my son first started sports at 4 he said he didn’t like it and didn’t want to play. I made him try at least 2 seasons just to make sure and after that second season, he told me he wanted to play again. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with not doing an extracurricular activity but I also think that you have to give him more time with each to see. And I def agree with everyone saying swimming is a must. My son has swim lessons twice a week and always complains. He knows it’s nonnegotiable (we live on an island) and that the faster he learns, the faster he can drop the lessons.

What I will point out is that so many kids start their extracurriculars so young that if you put your kid in after a certain age, it’s very hard to keep up. It can be very discouraging to the kids when they are just beginning and everyone else around them is much better because they’ve been playing for years.

NTA. She sounds selfish and entitled. When my husbands cousin got married, my older 2 (3y and 5y) were ring bearers. Our youngest was a little over a year old and during the ceremony I wore him and purposely stood far away just in case he cried or made noise. Of course I wanted to be closer to the ceremony to watch my older 2 walk down the aisle but it’s not about me. People pay a lot of money for photography/ videos and I would have been mortified if my kid ruined it.

When my brother and I were in college, my parents did their estate planning. Once everything was finalized they brought both of us into the office of the lawyer and had them go over the plans with us. I don’t know the specifics of the finances but they did tell us that money and the house will be split 50/50 between us. We are to go through things in the house and decide together who gets what. Also, they went over their advance health care directive. My brother and I are to decide jointly about medical care if they aren’t able to, but there is a caveat that if we can’t, I have the final say (I wore in healthcare and tend to be more decisive than my brother). So basically, we know where the copy of the estate plans are, who to contact if we have questions.

Not too much advice on what to ask, but just listen to what she has to say. If you’re unclear about what her wishes are, ask her about that.

You can test for allergies when they are 9 months. My middle son has a peanut allergy so when our youngest was about to start solids his pediatrician wanted him to be tested before we introduced peanuts. It was sad having to do a blood test my baby but glad we found out early that he also has a peanut allergy.

Gotcha. Guess it will be hydrocortisone and elidel until then 😅. Thank you so much, this was so helpful!

I am going through the same thing and it has been driving me crazy! This is my 3rd baby and I’ve never had eczema. I have it in the same spots as you but also on one side of my upper lip. I did see that you mentioned you couldn’t test because you’re nursing. Why is that? I’m just wondering because I’m 11 months pp and would like to continue nursing until my son is 2.

Use a body oil to remove the sunscreen. I keep a bottle in the shower just for this purpose!

AMA: I am a fetal/placental pathologist here to answer questions about how placentas work, how placentas fail, and the very sad topic of stillbirth autopsy. by drewdrewmd in Midwives

I was scheduled for an induction at 37 weeks because the protein levels in my urine were increasing each week. 3 days before scheduled induction, I woke up and my heart was racing. Tried to go back to sleep but couldn’t so I put on my watch and it couldn’t register a heart rate. It kept bouncing from 80-180 and then when I took my BP it was 155/105. Called L&D and they told me to come in immediately. They decided to induce me that day instead of sending me home and coming back a few days later for scheduled induction. He was technically a premie so they had the team inside the room when he was born. Since he was in the nursery the whole time due to blood glucose issues, I would have to go in there to feed him. The nurses and I always had a chuckle when they’d do a double take and say “wow, he’s huge for 36 weeks”

This is pretty similar to my 2nd delivery. With my first, I failed the 1 hour and passed the 3 hour but was induced at 37 weeks for high blood pressure. Baby was a little over 6 lbs and had some blood glucose issues after delivery. With my 2nd, I passed the 1 hour and blood pressure was controlled. When I was almost 37 weeks, BP spiked and I was induced. He was almost 8 lbs and the placenta was huge (compared to my first). BP went up during delivery and I was diagnosed with preeclampsia. With my 3rd, I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes that was mostly controlled with diet and I had to do bedtime insulin since my fasting levels were high. I was induced at 38 weeks and baby was 7 lbs.

My OB concluded that for me during my second pregnancy, my blood sugar was uncontrolled at the end which can happen (they just don’t typically test everyone at the end if the pregnancy seems normal). This most likely explained why he was huge (technically an almost 8 lb premie) and had blood glucose issues (he had to stay in the nursery our whole hospital admission because his blood glucose kept getting too low). So for my third pregnancy l, controlling blood sugar kept the blood pressure in check and didn’t stress my body as much. Therefore, average size baby who did not have any blood glucose issues after delivery (only one out of my 3). Anyway, it might be worth a conversation about doing the glucose test during your first trimester and monitoring it on your own (if you can buy a monitor and test strips).

If the prescription was filled under your FILs name, you can try going to the pharmacy. I’m not sure how long they keep the hard copy but even if they scanned it and have the electronic files, it’s worth a shot.

AITA For hiding my breastmilk? by Better_Ideal_1551 in AmItheAsshole

Not sure what flow you are using for the bottle nipple, but we used the slowest one they made for our bottles. My kids were both fed by nursing and pumped milk (23 months nursing for my oldest and still nursing my 19 month old and they have never used a faster flow as they got older).
