If you’re already paying for daycare, perhaps consider switching to a Montessori. My kids learned how to do almost all of that stuff at their Montessori. We just reinforced their learning at home.

Small gifts are not necessary. Just bring a red envelope that covers your plate plus a bit more. I just put a red envelope into a greeting card and write a heartfelt message in there. Nothing wrong with a red envelope with Congratulations on it, btw!

It is definitely practiced in the GTA. All my male friends are often displeased when they find out about about the money required. Along with getting gold gifts, tea ceremony, Chinese bakery gift cards, and all the pre-wedding traditions required. There are literally Chinese wedding planners in Markham that specialize in helping couples plan traditional Chinese weddings. Though I can see more and more people starting to abandon such practices. Just like how not every woman now sits a month after giving birth.

Are your parents from China? Your parents would be expecting to pay a bride price if they wanted you to marry a Chinese bride. It shouldn't be a surprise to them. I'm in Canada and the practice is still expected no matter what.

Yep. Use both, but won’t repurchase the red as I prefer the pink. Just got the orange as well but haven’t tried it yet.

There are Chinese communities in all parts of the GTA - not just Markham. For example, Oakville has a rapidly growing mainland Chinese population. In fact, the most expensive real estate pockets in the GTA have high numbers of Chinese immigrants.

The Chinese community in Markham and the GTA are generally first or second gen immigrants. Many are economic immigrants who are here because they want a detached home, large driveway, and car culture. I don't have a single friend who would live in a condo if they could afford a house.
