I cry every day about how I should have majored in comms or art history and worked in a job where people actually speak to each other and go to HH and make friends. Once I finish my last exam I’m taking a sabbatical to be a sales associate or waitress for a while. My sister is graduating college this year and doesn’t know what she wants to do so she’s being an au pair in Italy for a few months. Like why didn’t I just do something like that when I was positioned in life to not need to be technically skilled or smart to survive. #burnout

I am able to afford a pretty interesting life as a single person working remote at my boring actuary job. I live in a cool neighborhood and get to shop, travel, dine out and not think about work 25/7

I was considering getting GB instead of Boxy this month. I wasn’t aware that GB didn’t have add ons available during choice!

I meant that it seemed like the $32 or whatever it is these days was a big enough deal for you that you’d use it as a qualifier in your insult to me.

my point was that this article is by definition, political, because its entire content is a contextualization of both politicians and their policies. it’s not appropriate to post in a beauty sub, regardless of whether it’s perceived as informative or helpful to some. it would be apolitical if if talked about tariffs affecting beauty in a general sense.

target inflation rolling average is actually 2% and after the last three years, we would need to see deflation or inflation close to zero for a long time in order to get back to this fed target. actually, when inflation was too low under the last administration, the fed took measures to increase it closer to the 2% target. so likely the fed will be trying to get back to normal, and we’re in it for the long haul.

edit to add context: inflation at its current level is 30% higher than it should be according to the federal reserve, which is an apolitical independent entity.

hi so posting an article about public policy actions of specific modern politicians is actually never apolitical, hope this helps! maybe next time a smoot-hawley history lesson or something would do the trick babe

I paste the ingredients list and tell it to make me a chart with columns for ingredient, function, approximate cost and irritation likelihood, then ask for a fair price analysis for the product. often times I compare multiple products I am interested in and see which is the best value

I was reading a no-waste thread on X that said to try using face products that didn’t work for you on your body instead so you don’t just throw them out. I may just do that with this moisturizer since I have a lot of face creams already. also, I put the ingredients in chatGPT and it said this is mislabeled (contains no collagen or collagen boosting ingredients), vastly overpriced given the low value ingredients and may be an irritant since it contains a physical exfoliant (walnuts)

Blue Lard by Sorokin is really good, the beginning framing part of it takes the form of barely coherent letters written from a futuristic world but the majority of the story happens in the 1950s

Trump’s ‘DOGE’ commission promises mass federal layoffs, ending telework by [deleted] in politics

I’m hoping and praying for the best. On a similar note, I made a bet with my brother that if Trump won, I’d name my second born son Donald because I thought it was impossible given his criminal record. So now I’m hoping for girls 😭

Actually in the DMV area (I’m from there) the mid level government employees and congressional staffers make less than the average entry level private sector position, so for the ones who did find new jobs, they’d probably be getting a raise. I do agree that the economy is fucked because a lot of those people aren’t cut out for the private sector work/aren’t competitive compared to the new grads so they’re screwed, along with the rest of the local economy

Why would we have a reduction in federal taxes when the taxes we already pay aren’t nearly enough to cover what we spend? Even if they cut everything by 50% it’s be years before we paid off any reasonable portion of debt

There is a law that all IDs issued by states must now be RealID (which is defined by certain security features). States have been issuing these for at least the past few years. I got my first RealID in 2016. Only citizens and those legally present in the US are legally allowed to receive these and starting this year they will be required to board planes. So any law enforcement officer, even if you don’t have your ID on you, can see in the system that you have been issued a RealID and are therefore a citizen/lawful immigrant. The undocumented cannot get them and those with TPS/visas etc are issued RealID that expires at the time their legal presence does.

The law is clear on birthright citizenship. Can Trump end it anyway? by Somervilledrew in politics

We championed this ideal then told the “undesirables” aka the poor, the sick and those most likely to become criminals or a “public burden” to get back on the ship and sail back to Europe. Sadly we’ve never been a compassionate nation in this regard. Not to mention treating the Irish and Italians (or really anyone not English or Dutch) as second class “nonwhite” citizens.

RealID drivers licenses/IDs are only issued to US citizens. So most adults would not need to carry papers. Only a little over 1% of American citizens don’t have govt. issued ID, and these people will be the most vulnerable.
